You've just given me a thought, Transport Tycoon for iPad... THAT would be really great.

It's already there. See TTDX, it's the open source version of Transport Tycoon, essentially rewritten from scratch but following the original gameplay and graphics exactly. Needs more work though, currently no change to the UI which means you need very very small fingers to use it on iPad

Actually its called OpenTTD - It was originally a rip (i.e they reverse engineered it) but recoded it from scratch to be compatible with all the TTD gfx, saves, scenarios and midis. Its effectively Transport Tycoon v2 and provides great enhancements.

Someone ported it over, but the guy that did it (ZodTTD) is clearly not very good at what he does. I downloaded it for the iPhone when it first came out, and there were a ton of complaints - its unplayable due to the window/button sizes. To this day its not been addressed or even noted.

Sadly the iPad version suffers from the same problem.

It should be noted, OpenTTD is not on the same level as Sim City. They are VERY different games (traffic management vs city creation) and Sim City is much more fun to play over a long period of time.

Well Simcity Deluxe is out, but it's not for iPad :-(. Should I wait or do you think they'll make this a universal binary at some point?

I already own the original.

Are they retina-optimized graphics? I would think if they were and it was blown up on the iPad, it would look a lot better than the other non-retina apps.

I was really hoping for this to come out on the iPad, as the last post said it's almost like this game fits the iPad like a glove.

I've had a lot of fun w/ the hotel mogul app, but it just makes me yearn for some SimCity. :(

C'mon EA...

Unbelievable that the new Sim City comes out and we still see no iPad version of the game, this is clearly a game that fits perfectly on the iPad and thus the iPhone had already a almost identical version, I really don't understand the need to release a new version with some new things and a small change in the interface, this seems ridiculous to me.

I read some reviews of the SimCity Deluxe and am mad for two reasons.

1) No iPad specific version, which makes no sense as I know it would be a big hit on the iPad and would look and work much better on the large iPad screen as opposed to the tiny iPhone screen.

2) No Retina Display support, which would make using the iPhone version on the iPad much more usable when its blown up 2X.

I just don't get it, maybe EA is going to release an iPad specific app soon, and that's why they are doing this, but why can't they just release the iPad app at the same time, it can't be much more work to make the graphics a little higher resolution.

My conspiracy theory is they release the iPhone only app, let everyone buy that, then a month or two later release the iPad specific app and have everyone buy that too who already bought the first one.

EA is a big fat corporation that makes odd decisions sometimes. SimCity is a bit of a niche game to begin with, kind of like flight simulators. The big money is in Sims and Madden. So don't expect much with SimCity. Who knows if we'll ever see what we're looking for in this game.

Simcity iPad update needed badly

The crashing and water problems need to be fixed to make this game playable!
:apple:

Fixed?

Has anyone who has this app seen a fix for it yet? I really want to buy it, but it sounds like it is nearly unplayable?

Thanks!

I've had the SC for iPad since mid December. I've had no problems at all with the game. The only thing I think is a bug is that it will alternate between saying there isn't enough water and water supply adequate over and over. I've not had any crashes and it's gone smoothly. I don't expect they'll have any updates to the game, though. That just doesn't seem like EA's style. After all, the latest SC4 is barely Windows 7 workable and hasn't been updated in years.

Thanks for the update! Looks like I'll be downloading this later.

I actually just reinstalled SC4 on my laptop and got re-addicted :)

No problems here.

Haven't played in a few days but I can honestly say I've never had one problem with the game. (knocks on wood)

There are a lot of crashing problems, so had I not bought it when it was $0.99, I couldn't recommend it.

On top of the crashing issues, it also has bugs. No matter what I do, the ticker says I need more water.
