Hey all,

Looking for a simple MP3/music player app. I've used Pine Player, which is close to what I want, but some things about it are bugging me. Also used previous versions of COG, which was pretty good, but the new interface sucks, and they haven't figured out file or location permissions yet, which is annoying.

Apple Music, well no. I use if for some stuff, but this is more just random playing of files

What do you recommend!

Thanks for this, just what I am looking for!

Aural - FTW.
Tried Phonix, but it constantly crashed in the limited time I just tried it out.
Museeks - was interesting just didn't like the interface.

I use VLC for videos, wouldn't think to use it for music files. The interface is almost too basic.

You asked for a simple music player, and now you're complaining that it's too basic?

Right tool for the job kinda thing.

It's called a multitool. Why have mutliple tools when you can consolidate them into just one? No having to dig for each individual tool when you got them all in one. So consolidating all your media players to just VLC reduces unnecessary software bloat, and means you only need one icon on your dock instead of multiple.

(As a sidenote everyone should have a multitool IRL. My Gerber has come in clutch so many times especially at lunchtime when the microwavable film just refuses to come off.)

problem with VLC on iphones is that it cant continuous play next tracks with the screen turned off, even with settings set for this :( can only continue playback with the screen on wasting battery

Might mention VOX here, since no one else has. Although I have not used it in a long time (iTunes for me) so I can't really speak for it one way or another

VOX can continuously play audio tracks in a playlist with the screen off? as good as VLC is, it cant do this without keeping the screen on.

It seems that Cog remains the suitable open-source choice. I have not found the issues mentioned by the first post. Museeks, however, does not work for me and it is updated infrequently.

I used VOX, now it is no longer good. No library - no way to control and enjoy even a small collection - at the time when I was using it. And I've got a stanza of music. Now I regularly use Elmedia Player. Nice player for both video and audio files.

Regarding COG, in its defense, it's worthy of trying it again :)
