I tried version 0.0.3 and it really shows potential. Those people on versiontracker just don't see the potential, instead, they judge the program as if it had reached it's final version.
Here is my opinion:
Apple doesn't provide any application for simple painting. So, in an ideal world, PosterPaint comes to fill this gap. It's features are very basic so far, but they are better than nothing, and I am sure that I'm going to use this in the future.
My most requested feature is to write text onto images... But apart from that, I can already think of a few reasons why I should use this app.
1)It's free
2)There is nothing equivalent on the mac
3)I want to support individual developers, and especially the creator of posterpaint because I can see great potential in this app.
How do I know this can become a great app?
Firstly, it will be free (I hope). Secondly, it is one of the few multiprocessor universal binaries out there. It is a great step forwards. Thirdly, those features already implemented are not easy to find in a non-commercial freeware program that is so fast and simple to use.
Noone said that PosterPaint will replace Paint during its infant stages. PosterPaint is just an application developed by a man who loves programming and wants to give something in the world that is hard to find. I don't know if that person will succeed in his purpose, but I for one believe we should give his program a try, and maybe we end up using this program a lot!
Remember
VLC? At first it was total crap, and I preferred Quicktime over it. Now, there is no computer in Windows and Mac who hasn't heard of it because it is one of the best freeware programs out there. And it all begun when someone thought he would create version 0.0.0 of VLC, which could play only 2 formats of video.... Think about it!
