It's always been a CDMA vs. GSM issue, the iPhone hardware has been capable but the network hasn't.

That being said, in my area AT&T wasn't an option. We had it for a 2 year contract and it was terrible! No reception at all at my house, very little at my mom's, calls would drop when going around a curve or sometimes even under a tree. LOL! Yeah, we switched to Verizon and haven't looked back! While it is awesome that this has been enabled, it was never a deal breaker before because you have to have cell service before you have talk and date at the same time.
I lived with ATT in the pre LTE days. It was so bad that I cant beliieve anyone put up with it. Then came along LTE and made ATT a viable option. We went from no service to great service. I'm not sure why I never switched to a different provider.

No idea if EE have it, but I'm on Three so would love them to get onto it. Especially as they are the only ones to offer unlimited data.

Well that won't have anything to do with the Data usage.

But I've had nothing but problems with three and gave up and went to ee - super fast all the time.

I think I am the only one that can't get this to work. The feature is enabled under My Verizon. It won't show up on my phone though. I've tried resetting every setting (including a clean wipe) and it still won't show. Anyone got an idea?

That looks like an iPhone 5S screenshot, and this only work on the 6 and 6+.

Under Enable LTE, where you have an on/off switch, I have the selection option:
  • Off
  • Voice & Data
  • Data Only

Are you getting an LTE signal? If you turn off wifi can you see the LTE logo next to the signal dots?

Yep. And yep. Just called Verizon they reset the signal and reactivated the service. Still nothing.

When I went to add it on Verizon's site, it said it was already enabled. Probably because I selected Voice and Data on my phone first. This tells me logging into Verizon's site isn't needed to add the feature, you only need to enabled it on your iPhone 6.

Can you tell me the steps you took to see the feature in your Verizon account? I can't figure out how to tell if it's already enabled when I log into my Verizon account. Thanks!

once your iphone 6 or 6+ activates on the network, it should add the feature automatically, it did for me at least. if your device is properly registered on your verizon account, you can go into the add features section and see it as an add free on.

I had turned off VoLTE after I enabled it because I was thinking maybe I'd given it some time to break in. Yesterday, figured I'd give it a try while traveling locally most of the day, it worked fine. No issue, and was able to get iMessages all day while on the phone. So far so good. Will leave it on for now.

Alright I figured it out. After a bunch of testing and resetting we finally changed out the SIM card and voila.. Data and voice over LTE. They must of left my previous SIM card in from the iPhone 5.

Whew. :D

So you have the SIM in there now that came with the 6? You want to make sure you do since it is a special SIM that works with the NFC services that will be coming.

What are you referring to? You do not need a special SIM for NFC. You need a special SIM for ISIS on ISIS compatible phones (Softcard now).

No they gave me a new sim. I wasn't aware the phones shipped with the sim installed? But with a new sim from verizon it works now. Just in case if anyone has this issue maybe someone could put it in the original post?

Yep... they do. You just turn on the phone and activate it. So it was someone at the Verizon store that just swapped the SIM then?

Before my head explodes:

I have an Ip6 and have marginal cell phone coverage. My usualy db rating is around -114.

My voice and data are enabled on the phone and advanced calling is enabled in my Verizon account.

I am in an LTE area and when I turn off wi-fi I get the LTE in the upper left of the phone.

My questions:

1. When I now make a call, is it going out via LTE or CDMA and how would I know ?

2. I usually leave wi-fi on, so I don't see a LTE symbol. When I am making a call and it is on LTE, will that symbol pop up instead of the wi fi symbol?

3. Is the db rating( or the round dots) now a useless measure of signal strength if all my calls are going on LTE?

Thanks.

Update: I think that the way to initiate a Volte call on my Iphone 6 is to turn off wifi, check that I have an LTE symbol and make the call. If this is correct please comment or send me a PM.

I was on data only, switched to voice & data and kept getting spinning wheel. I switched to off. When I try to switch to anything now, I get a message saying it can't enable LTE and I need to call customer service....WT....

Verizon includes the hotspot feature for free now. They've been doing this for a couple of years. I think it was a requirement due to a certain spectrum of LTE bandwidth they purchased or something which prevents them from charging extra for hotspot/tethering. Every VZW customer should have this feature to the best of my knowledge (unless perhaps some older plans don't offer it). If you don't have it, I'd call them!

This is not true...

Older plans like Nationwide do not have it.

If I want it, I have to pay for it.

It's only for the more everything plan.

Wrong. First, even Verizon's website says volte works only when both phones have it enabled.

Nope. Wrong. Please.

What it says is that HD Voice only works when both phones are HD Voice enabled. HD Voice is a subset of VoLTE. Here's the key statement from Verizon's Advanced Calling 1.0 FAQ: "Advanced Calling 1.0 is our first generation of services enabled by VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology."

What is Advanced Calling 1.0? Verizon's brand name for a few traditionally-not-data services that the LTE data connection allows, such as HD Voice, video calls, multi-conference calls, etc.

People, Voice Over LTE is a voice-as-data technology, usable to call anywhere (yes, land lines too) which 'unburdens' the CDMA connection from having to carry voice, so simultaneous voice and data is possible in a CDMA framework. The LTE bandwidth allows potentially nifty features such as HD voice. For HD Voice to work, both ends of the call need to be able to encode/decode. For voice to be carried over LTE, only the calling phone needs to be able to send it.

Please, for the sake of the rest of us, please follow this sequence:
1. Read
2. Pause
3. Think
4. Read again
5. Think again
6. Verify
7. Pause
8. Post

This is confusing stuff, and posting inaccurate information doesn't help.

Right, I meant that Verizon includes mobile hotspot on all current plans. When I signed up with Verizon ~3 years ago, mobile hotspot was included in my plan at no additional charge. I obviously cannot speak to older plans that Verizon is still permitting people to use. But all CURRENT plans include mobile hotspot.
