It has been a pure joy since the moment I opened the package!

It has so much over my old 3GS it would be hard NOT to be overjoyed:

  • Stunning screen
Better battery life (now I can actually enjoy using GPS, push, and WiFi)
Much more accurate and faster GPS
    Extremely clear call quality
    Better WiFi
    Stunning design
    Awesome camera and HD recording
and dare I say it..........no reception problems (unless I try to recreate them)

I wouldnt swap it for any other phone on the market today, and assume that it will only be replaced by the next iPhone.

I'd buy it day 1 again, no hesitation.

I'm not having issues with dropped calls. My data is still faster than my 3G. Worst case I find that in some areas I have an issue, and I have to use a case. Well heck, I've had a case on every smartphone I've used. So.. any fussing I might do would be based on some alternate reality in which I don't use a case.

No regrets at all and would preorder again. I do have the antenna issue but since I've put a case on it, I've had no problems

No way. I love my new phone. I also have the antenna issue but it has not significantly impeded the use of my phone. I agree with other posters...I definitely prefer preordering to waiting in line for long hours! By the time I realized I was eligible for the upgrade, the preorder and reservation fiasco was over. Next year I'll be more attentive!

The only time I had a wobble was while waiting to collect my reserved IP4 at one of London's larger Apple emporia. My little browser was awash with lurid tales of scratched glass, yellow screens and spotty reception, and as I neared the front of the queue (line to you) I began to think "what the hell am I doing here - just go home, lie down, take the pills and wait a month, it's only 48 hours since you downloaded iOS4 and there's absolutely nothing wrong with your 3GS".

At that point a wholesome young lady in a blue t-shirt shouted "SIM free, follow me". It seemed rude to reject her advances so I went, bought, added a bumper and now we are the best of friends - me and the phone, that is.

This is a good example of why I never buy any gadget when it first comes out. By the time I get it, the bugs will all have been identified, and probably fixed. And if not, at least I'll be making an informed decision and nothing will come as an unpleasant surprise.

Would definitely do it again. Yes I have reception issues, but the case that i bought resolves that, I would have gotten a case anyways, and so were half the people on here.. Most of you are just looking for a freebie.

Thank you OP. I asked a similar question in the UK iPhone 4 thread but it just got swamped. I should have started another thread. I had been planning on upgrading my 3G next week when my contact ends (stock permitting) but was just wondering whether to wait another month to see what happens. It looks like most of the people in this thread are glad they got theirs.

Glad you're all enjoying your phones! :)

No regrets here! I love my iPhone 4 and have had zero problems with it.

I can reproduce the signal issue if I death grip the phone in that specific area on the lower left corner, but to me this is not an issue. I am right handed and through normal use, even using my left hand at times, I have had absolutely zero dropped calls or reception issues. Call quality is actualy better than my 3G, especially over Bluetooth (it is now much louder and easier to hear over Bluetooth).

I wouldn't listen to the Applehaters and naysayers. Most of these phones, and all of the people I personally have talked to that bought them, have had no issues.

Go get one!

My two cents--I'm happy with mine and I upgraded from an original (2007 launch day) iPhone. I was able to get in on the preorder and received my iPhone 4 last week on launch day. Glad I did not wait, because the wait could be somewhat of a hassle for a few weeks while supply catches up with demand.

As far as the grip of death--yes, I can make the signal strength drop but it doesn't lose service. I also see 3 G float in and out just sitting flat on my desk, so I'm not sure what that proves.

I wanted to order a bumper with the iPhone preorder, but couldn't (my pre-order was through AT&T premiere which doesn't carry it); tried to buy one locally last Friday at the 3 Apple Stores (all out of stock); and ordered on online which should ship next week.

It was the same ordeal with the original iPhone--getting a case took some patience and trial and error.

I know I would not want an iPhone 4 without some protection on the corners. Right now, I'm using the same case as my original iPhone-since the iPhone 4 is slightly slimmer, it's a loose fit, but good enough for the moment. But I like the form (similar to the original iPhone that's flat in back).

The speed and display is amazing, camera is finally good, and I love the 32 GB extra capacity--battery life is nothing to WOW over (I'm getting what normal people are reporting, not the 38 hours of usage that some see, however), but I can get through the day OK. I never had a 3G or 3GS, so all I can say is the battery life on those most have been pretty poor.

I am also enjoying all the new features, since I'm upgrading from a gen 1 iPhone on edge, to iPhone 4 with 3 G, video camera, GPS (which is really accurate), ect...

If you're upgrade eligible, I'd definitely say go for it. If you're using a 3GS now, you'll still see a speed boost and the display, but not sure if it's worth the money to switch just yet.

I will have full "hindsight" when the white iPhone 4 is released. That might be the day I regret waiting - but for now - I LOVE my new phone! I was using the original iphone that I had owned for 3 years so this phone is quite a step up. I dropped 3 of my first 4 calls, then I got a case and haven't had a dropped call since. I might "force" my daughter to take my black iPhone 4 though so I can use her upgrade to get a white phone. Best phone ever! :)
