You've lost me.
My understanding of your statement was that including support for display port somehow holds back the potential for thunderbolt, was I misunderstanding you? If not, can you elaborate? I'm a bit lost as to the issue, bug I'm guessing your referencing available PCIe lanes or something?

No, I'm specifically asking you because I don't know the nuances of things like PCIe lanes. I'm asking you honestly to explain it to me because I don't understand your premise.

The T-Bolt controller requires that the Display Port (DP) signals from the GPU be connected to the T-Bolt controller.
A standard PCIe GPU sends the DP signals to DP ports on the graphics card. Monitors are connected to those ports with DP cables.
So, T-Bolt has to have DP signals on the mobo, and a PCIe card has no connection from DP to the mobo (no "spare" connectors on the PCIe slot to carry the signals).
It's OK for a laptop, where both iGPUs and dGPUs are on the mobo. (It's also OK for the MP6,1, because the GPUs use a proprietary connector that carries the DP signals.)
It should have been optional for T-Bolt to carry DP signals, not mandatory.

In regards to liquid cooling, several years ago - probably 6-7 I have build a PC gaming system using the first gen i processor and using Corsair closed loop system. The machine has been running on (or sleep), rarely off for all this time.
I wanted stock performance, but quiet.
I think this thing will be modular, but in a sense where additional modules will come from Apple - not a cheesegrader style where you swap drives and cards.

Thunderbolt was meant to replace Firewire.
Thunderbolt using USB-C will be a common port supplying many standards. The price point of Thunderbolt peripherals is offset by the occupations that are expected to make the greatest use and the most money using these ports, content creation, 3D animation and a bevy of other high end uses.

Thunderbolt is big with people who use external hard drives especially on location when moving data around. It is loved in the photo/video world.
No need to get emotional. I did not say that nMP was a success, did I? I fully agree that Apple has mismanaged its Mac pro and mac mini lines.Man you guys crack me up.
- Apple held a mea culpa press event to discuss the problems with the nMP, and furthermore indicated they were going to turn it around with a complete redesign. They admitted to disappointing customers and they said they were sorry. All tech industry articles are interpreting this as a sign of failure. If you personally don't think that's a sign of failure, then you are a bit out of touch.
- Schiller's own stated goal for the design was to last 10 years. Instead it will never see an update, and it is being dropped like a rock. Failing to meet his stated goal of a 10 year life is an objective statement, not an opinion.
- It quite literally fails, repeatedly. So much so that Apple has a recall for defective GPUs. The replacement GPUs are not redesigned in any way, so under the same workload the replacements simply fail too, over and over again:
- There is a lawsuit filed that is seeking class-action status
- The VFX team for Deadpool said that Mac Pros burned out regularly and had to be routinely replaced
- There is a problem GPU thread that has now reached over 1000 posts
- This guy has had four fail in a row
The nMP is a great success!
However, I refute a poorely defined conclusion based on no evidence. I know what Apple management team said at the meeting but they did not back it up with hard evidence as far as I know, meaning that it is impossible for an independent source (the tech press or you) to verify that Apples management team has drawn the "correct" conclusions.
Your references to people with issues with the GPU has little meaning as you do not know how many nMP there are with no issues. Furthermore, a comparative test with a chease grater with 2 7970 doing the same work and observe the failure rate of the GPU is needed in order to say that the nMP has troubles more than other computers/GPUs. Note, I am not saying the nMP does not have a problem, but I say that I lack creditable data that support any claim abouts its problem.
If the nMP is a failure or not is for me completely irrelevant but I am interested in the reasons for a switch. I think that one of the reasons they drop the nMP is because of the custom made boards which makes it expensive to switch to a newer GPU or CPU when such are available. It must be particularly expensive on low volume products.
Thunderbolt is far from dead and will be more widespread than ever:

I wonder if they'll make Display Port optional....
Having to run DP traces *into* the CPU package doesn't seem practical.

Well, given the current state of TB, this won't be difficult to achieve.
Apple can thank Intel for saving their a$$.
Well even now, many brands and companies dont use TB3 because of its royalty price and require a separate controller which makes TB3 to be expensive. Also due to the controller, computer especially laptop require more space for TB3 controller.
And because of that issue,
Intel will going to make TB3 for free from next year. Also, all Intel CPU will have TB controller that brands and companies dont need to make a separate controller just for TB3.

Even TB3 is not being used widely and that's why Intel decided to make TB3 be royalty free. Also, all Intel CPU from next year will have TB controller so other brands or companies dont need to make TB controller which takes some space inside of product or computer.
Has nothing to do with Apple. When Thunderbolt is wide spread enough, you will need an Intel processor to utilize it. Intel did it for their own sake, not Apples. Apple was just a side effect.

and apple is doomed for using it? or not?

It's just part of a changing narrative. A few pages ago it was a dead protocol, now it's because Intel has to add it to their processors royalty free. As long as there is a constant need for faster standards regardless of price or adoption, manufactures will build it as long as it's profitable enough.

Hey Im talking about facts and reality. There aren't that many TB products and somewhat limited especially for regular customers. Like I said, that's why Intel decided to make TB3 be royalty free in order to spread and expand their port.
All I can say is that in the photo/video world thunderbolt is used all over the place and is extremely popular.

Honestly, I still haven't seen TB in use a single time. I'm sure there are several studios and private users that utilize it, but I definitely wouldn't say 'used all over the place and extremely popular.' I've yet to encounter a single user in the real world, and that includes a fairly large sample of decent-sized studios.
