Siri referring to Zuckerberg as "Sucker Berg" had me laughing hysterically.

Google Assistant is something I do envy and wish my iPhone 7 could achieve. It's better than Siri on many levels. Siri does other things well with tasking and notifications, however; requires improvements in dictation and deciphering.

It's not better on "many levels".

Did you watch the video or did you simply post right away?

Siri answered (and in some cases gave more information) than GA.

GA is better at continuing the conversation but as I said, it's not better on many levels.

Now, go and watch the video.

I just asked Siri to show me pictures I took of sports in the past week - and it brought up all my sons baseball photos. So that is not a win for google.

[EDIT: I don't use "Hey Siri so did not know what others posted above that Siri is smart enough to when to show and talk sondisregard next few sentences]Both his insights are correct - Siri should talk more given you might be driving. She should be better at context, I was actually surprised she got any of the contextual questions correct. That impressed me since I have never seen her do that. Both do it much worse than the Hound which is contextual times a million.

I was pretty impressed by how both fared. Googles ability to answer questions that you pose comes from the work google has done at trusted sources where oftentimes when you search at the top is the answer to the question in bigger text. They can leverage that to their assistant which is cool.

What Siri reads out loud greatly depends on how you invoke it.

When you hold the home button and ask something, Siri will often only display results, as it assumes that you are holding your device in your hand and are looking at it. If you say "Hey Siri", with the Display turned off before, Siri will read out more of what it has found, as it assumes, you are not looking at the screen.
THIS.

I rarely rely on Siri for little more than setting a timer. Results are often not what I was looking for, wrong, or I'm directed to the web.

Example: I asked just now "Hey Siri, What time do the Chicago Cubs play tonight?" Response: "The Chicago Cubs play the Dodgers in game 7 of the NLCS tomorrow at 7 pm".

What happened to game 6?

Even if they do there is no evidence it leaves Apple. Google sells info left and right. And judging from Apple services they don't use big chunk of information that's available to them.

There is no such evidence available. We have no idea how much or how little they use.

Though you would have to be naive if you think they don't use complex analytics on the data they have. Data thier management demands for planning and forecasting. To stay ahead in business you need to know your users ...from data available, I have never been in a company that has not utilisesed all the data they had.

Data you agreed when you signed the end user agreements for iOS, OS X ...iTunes. You don't even own OS X and iOS on the devices you purchase. And cause one is so keen to use a new mac or Idevice they have no idea what they are agreeing to in regards to data :(

It does not matter, my point is just that apple does what all the over companies do to stay competitive , they use our data , like storing Siri data for 2 years....to mine it, for improvements as they say, still data making .

Serious question . As this is my pet peeve with Siri , how do I get it to answer any questions to shows ?

I keep being sent to iTunes is which so annoying .

For instance " when does walking dead new series start?"

Any question I ask about a show that is on iTunes and the question is ignored and I get sent to buy content :(

Do you know a way around this ?

Actually there is. We see it from using Apple services such as Maps and Siri for example.

Siri data is stored for two years.....ummm it's mined.

To be exact it does what google does, assigns a random identifer to the data, its still your data getting mined

Anonymously to better understand speech mainly. Go rewatch the video, please. Any question that had potential for some extra content information google provided that fro his usage patterns and history. Siri provided none of extra content information based on usage patterns.

Just stop please.

I actually read the responses in this thread first and then went and watched the video. Not sure what some people were watching but after watching the video it was clear to me that both GA and Siri were pretty much equal in most regards with each having a slight edge in some areas. Siri did exceptionally well in that video. Certainly Siri presents the information in a much better format vs GA. Siri isn't perfect but neither is GA.

Yes, to improve Siri for example. So? How else do you improve it? The more interesting question is where else that data goes? Apple says nowhere. That's the point. With google it's a different story. Google buys info from amazon or ebay, sells to banks and so on.

WTF is wrong with you?

I'll leave you with this , your voice is being captured but assigned an anonymous ID....and stored for 2 years. Could your voice be unique?

Google does not sell your personal data. Ever. Google data is as personal as Siri data in this example....

There is nothing wrong with me, why the personal attack? cause it's an area I work in and have had to introduce google services at work through data protection and privacy department.

I suggest you do some research instead of the FUD that is google selling personal data.... fun myth, but false.

From your conversation with @MH01, two things are very apparent. 1. You have no idea about what data Apple mines, how much the actually data mine, and how they share it - and yes they definitely share it. I assume because you never actually looked it up. Instead relying on statements like "We don't sell your data" as evidence of the differences between Apple and Google's data mining. 2. You seriously seem not to realize how much of the same data both companies mine. If you add up what Google and Apple expressly tell you they mine, you're going to find more similarities than differences. You should never confuse marketing: "We don't sell your data" with business: we track your data, we mine your data, we make money from your data. Both companies do it. Both companies tell you they do it. Some just choose to believe only one company does it.

Ok. Glad you are here to tell me. I was blind, but now i see.

At first i thought he was unbiased, but that was few years ago. But now ... bordering on trolling in a very subtle way.

Yeah. I've noticed. I stopped following him. He's either ignorant about iOS or purposefully omitting important features and information to lean Android. Either one costs him his credibility as a reviewer.

Siri struggles with deciphering and dictation for simple terms like defining a word. And Google assistant can produce a definition and understand in a faster manner, then yes, it's in my opinion that Google Assistsnt is better in various area's. And NBA score does not compare in terms of the capabilities of what else Google assistant and Siri can offer. Siri excels in multitasking when it comes to schedules, calendar events, messages, emails, and/or applying general settings, but beyond that, I'm not fairly confident with Siri in various task. And I used Siri extensively, nor an I bashing it.

I use Siri extensively as well. I picked up an interesting issue where my Bluetooth car mic does not actually give good audio input (low KHz). This severely impedes interpretation.

When you search for something on google and then hour later start seeing ads everywhere based on your search. Also read the terms of use for any of goole services.
Yes, because all of those adverts are from the satanic soul stealer, Google. You might want to research the use of cookies and how other less transparent Internet tracking companies use your data before laying all the blame at their door.

You need to put on your foil hat and get off the Internet if you are afraid of your not very interesting, anonymised data being used to pop up adverts.

And as for registering on forums... "shudder".

Google does not sell your personal data.

Allegedly.

Never expected Siri to be that good. I was expecting to be waaaaaay worse than Googles' assistant.

It's the haters that make things worse than they're most of the time. Siri is just a little behind google, but I'm happy with it when I do use it.

But...when you go into the Apple Store app, apple suggests what accessories I need for my iPhone. They dig through my buying history , find the device, show me in the store app what the device is and suggest what I should buy. I don't remember consenting to this....

Suggested content via iTunes??

Also in your example above, google does not actually know it's you.....big difference. Apple knows exactly it's you, cause it's mining your data to give joy suggestions based on what you have bought.

The difference is Apple doesn't turn around and sell our info while google does. It's in their terms of services.
