I actually like how Apple asks for your intent before it sends anything over to ChatGPT, as OpenAI does NOT have the same privacy policies as Apple does for their intelligence products.

Will actually be good for those that don't mind it at all while keeping the more private options available and used instead by default.

I'm just wondering if its a terms and conditions thing at the start and if you agree, does it use all the data on your device for their learning models?

Siri Can Access ChatGPT Directly With iOS 18…

… if you have an iPhone 15 Pro.

On device requires 15 Pro or better and does not use OpenAI.

ChatGPT integration, it was not made clear what "hardware requirements" there are for that. We all know that any iPhone currently supported can use ChatGPT, because they already do. I would be very surprised if they tell me I need the power of the 15 Pro to insert an API key. Every other friggin program I use has updated in the last year to either upsell me on ChatGPT, or offer to insert my own API key.

They talked about their own private cloud, but it was not made clear under what circumstances it would be used. That also would not require a 15 Pro or better. But it seems to be distinct from OpenAI.

It seems like adding ChatGPT is basically the equivalent of adding a new default browser setting. It's not the same as Apple Intelligence.

And ChatGPT uses Bing, Google is going to love that. They also said they will be adding more integrations from other providers, expect Google Gemini to be close behind.

I don’t want to ask for permission every time I need CHATgpt. Just let me give an always option so I can use Siri instead of the ChatGPT app.
That was the first thing I thought. I imagined the dreaded statement from Siri every single time, "would you like me to check with chatgpt? 'Yes Siri.' I'm sorry, I didn't understand what you said. Would you like me to check with chatgpt?"

Ugh.

Good that you don’t need an account. Presumably each new fresh request will be seen by ChatGPT as another device, and not the same “user”.

So when Apple said they hadn't invested everything on VR and a failed car and they were actually developing AI too it was 100% a lie.
Guess what, they could have just listened to users telling then that Siri was way too dumb for a decade and a half. Now we'll get an half baked GPT integration like Copilot.

Damn.. some of these comments make me wonder whether they actually watched the presentation.. or just came here to troll.

Let's look at 2 things here, which seem to be confusing people.

1) Apple AI isn't good so they have to use ChatGPT.
- No.. they're two completely separate models. Apple Intelligence using your Apple data to generate personalised and content-aware responses / output which is not connected to ChatGPT in any way.. The ChatGPT aspect is when you're looking for information which is beyond the scope of Apple Intelligence. Comparing the two is pointless.. You'd have to send the entire contents of your iCloud to OpenAI in order for them to have the same ability as Apple Intelligence.

2) ChatGPT will not be available for anything less than iPhone 15 Pro
- No.. "Apple Intelligence" will not be available for anything less than certain devices due to the neural processing engines. The ChatGPT services are entirely cloud-based and are not in any way restricted by the hardware. The exception to this would be if Apple actively decide to kill that ability, which is extremely unlikely, as ChatGPT is free for users regardless. They'd be cutting out a huge amount of code for the sake of being petty. In my experience, Apple does indeed make restrictions to older devices, but only when there's a clear performance or security initiative to do so... but I guess I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I feel like this is done to bolster Siri's creativity and chatiness. Anyone else notice that Apple Intelligence Siri didn't do much talking?

"New Siri" could be more practical, more action-and-data driven, on your phone and in your orbit. It falls back to ChatGPT for stuff outside of it's wheelhouse; creative queries, explanations of new ideas, etc. Like phoning a friend in Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

That's.. weird. I use GPT all the time, as such, why would I add middleware? If I didn't want GPT for something, I'd ask Google. What's the added value of Siri here?

So whenever siri needs a fallback.. it fallbacks to gpt.

Just shows you how good and generic gpt is

"we created awesome Apple Intelligence! but our Intelligence is not as good as OpenAI's". Apple looks so lame.
Not sure how you got there. Apple Intelligence is a door hinge. ChatGPT is a bumper. They're not the same thing, don't have the same goals, and don't substitute for each other at all.

It'd be interesting to see the bumper Apple was working on (assuming it was) and finding out how it fell short.

>ChatGPT subscribers will also be able to access paid features within the experiences.

As a ChatGPT subscriber: no, thanks!

I want to decide when to use GPT and for what. I don’t want them to get a copy of all my Siri requests (and no, if you connect the account, the usage won’t be anonymous anymore).

Does anyone know if this feature is limited to iPhone 15 pro and above? Or is that just the Apple Inteligence thats limited to iPhone 15 pro and above?

Terrible decision. Entirely against the supposed privacy focus that Apple has. Add to that ChatGPT still regularly provides misinformation or even dangerous responses.

Privacy ≠ secrecy.

Privacy doesn't mean never share your data with anyone. It's about being in control of your data, share only what's necessary and asking for permission when shared or taken.

You need iPhone Pro for all Apple Intelligence features. Finally, that's enough reason for me to switch to Pro models.
Except you don't, its just because Apple rushed this out and only put 6GB of RAM in older models.

The A17 has nothing to do with it, the lack of RAM is the screw up.

They've been tight on ram for years and now people will pay the price for their greed.

You need 8GB of RAM minimum for on device AI, You can buy a £450 Pixel 8a and get Gemini nano on it because it has 8GB 🤣

Well that's certainly better than Siri badly trying to integrate Google search results when I ask it stuff today. 😂
Not funny though that my siri was more intelligent back in the day, right now it can send me to google results when all i want is time in other state.

If Siri can handle anything, my experience with Siri has been very bad, their Siri needs improvement considerably. I am directly on ChatGPT on my own, so I won’t be using Apple.
