Hey all,

Siri has stopped working on my iphone 6S. When you hold down the button instead of the normal beep you get a microphone icon and then she says "I'm sorry I didn't get that" or similar. Still working fine on my Apple Watch and ipad Air 2. I took a video https://www.instagram.com/p/BUAzuU4gt9Z/ to show what I mean. Anybody else having this problem? I've tried restarting and various other solutions but nothing so far. Everything else is working fine, I can make phone calls and facetime etc and it's all dandy so I don't think it's any kind of hardware fault, it seems like some kind of weird bug to me.

Try turning Siri off then back on. If that doesn't work try Reset All Settings.

Try cleaning your microphones, the one on the side of the camera and the other one on the bottom of the phone

I tried turning Siri off and then on again, this did nothing. Haven't tried reset all settings, so maybe I'll give that a go. I'm also considering a full restore but having to resync 80gb of music doesn't appeal, though maybe I can do it tonight :)

I just turned Siri off. Siri is dead to me. It's dead in the water. It died in 2012. There's no reason to use it now.

I still use it to set timers and to add stuff to my shopping list etc, though not much else. For "real" enquiries I use Google as it's just heaps smarter. It still works on my watch and Ipad so yes I kind of agree with you but the OCD bit of me wants to fix this.

Microphones are working fine. When I set Okay Siri up, it hears me fine. As you can see from the video, the problem here is she doesn't even give me a chance to speak and she doesn't make the usual beep sound when you push the button. I also plugged in an iphone headset which I've read elsewhere is meant to over-ride this problem (I'm not the only one this has happened to) and the same symptoms occur, so it doesn't seem to me like it's a hardware fault.

When I'm in a loud environment (laundry room) Siri cuts me off and says "I didn't get that" till I go somewhere quieter. Problematic but not tragic.

Yep, 10.3.1. I've now reset all settings and she's now working normally. Very strange. I guess that's one step away form a full restore without having to resync all your content and apps, so worth trying. Thanks for the suggestions folks!

Never had problems with Siri until recently and now when I ask a question Sire lists all these things I can instead of doing what I want. Has done this multiple times. Is there a setting to turn this obnoxious list off?

Right mine does the same thing. If you look the microphone isn't staying active; it activates then immediately deactivates.

Really don't feel like setting up all my home screens again if I Reset All Settings. Hoping since I'm not the only one that this would get fixed soon. Just today it's now starting to affect the voice dictation on the keyboard as well.

I suspect it is an Apple server thing and would wait. My VP is having the same exact problems. So it is not hardware for sure.

I've been having the exact same problem the past couple days. Definitely a bug that has developed recently. I'm on a 7+.

It shocks me how some days Siri is so accurate with deciphering and dictation. And then there are other days, where Siri can't even decipher some of the simplest terminology. And then in comparison, I go to Google voice and it's instantaneous and accurate with exact same word I Pronounced. It just seems completely lopsided on some days and other days it's good.

Same thing, 7 256GB, 10.3.1. Two friends also have the same issue/problem, same iOS and device.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm on 10.3.1 and this starting happening to me a few days ago. Really frustrating. It works correctly about one in five times.

i'm having this same issue on a 7. i've tried a reboot, syncing while plugged in (someone on reddit suggested that) and turning siri off and on. no dice, and it's quite frustrating as siri and i typically get along quite well and i use her a LOT. dictation seems fine, but siri interrupt me and interrupts herself. if i say 'hey siri,' her response is the ding and a 'sorry i missed that.' it may well be a mic problem, but i don't live close enough to an apple store to just pop by.

i have a 6 i use for travel, and that one seems to be working fine. was hoping someone would have a solution here, but at least i can chime in with similar voices with the problem!

Update - spoke w/ SenAdv today, have done hard reset, no luck. Was advised to do backup/restore and report back, however after the call found out that today is the release day for 10.3.2. Did backup and updated to 10.3.2 - no luck, Siri still not working. FYI SenAdv said that "engineers" do know there is an issue, but that is far as it went before being told to backup/restore. The need to do that now after updating to 10.3.2 is now up for debate...

Still dead on my end.

Mine is back working like it never happened and I did not restore or reset or even reboot my 7+. It just started working again, this morning. The engineers had to know there was a problem and when I talked to Siri she kept coming up with the dumb list of things that could be done.

I wholeheartedly agree! Except for voice dialing, sending texts, setting calendar events. You know, the mundane, everyday, useful tasks.

So I try Siri this a.m. and same situation, so I decide to change Siri language to English (other location) in light of past issues with Siri in attempt to see if other sources were up and running/working, but that had to many consequences (retrain Hey Siri, etc.), so for fun was changing Siri voice to Aussie and low and behold, “will take effect when downloaded” - yet it has been stuck at 0% complete for 20 minutes now. Tired of waiting to switching to other voice option - male Aussie, no luck, male American and holy cow, it's DL'ing. Jump back to female voice options and try Aussie a few more times with no luck, then the seventh or eight time it actually starts DL'ing.

Call me crazy but that sure looks like a red flag that Apple has something FUBAR on the backend and isn't owning up. And no, changing Siri voice had zero effect on functionality - still doesn't work, err, works, one out of every 50...

What are the chances that there is a butterfly effect from the coding/data involved in a carrier update? Thinking of any other possible cause/reason the only other possibility that comes to mind this time in the morning is that the carrier update had an effect since this started occurring at roughly the same time I updated to AT&T 28.4, that said the Siri issue is the same while in airplane on wifi, sooo... It's early morning so take this with a grain of salt, but there is chaos everywhere...
