I thought I heard somewhere that they were going to tie in iMessage for Mac & Find my Mac.

isn't the point of Siri, that you can do these things while driving, running, biking, ... dancing, clapping etc. aka using no hands?
when are you using your laptop without using your hands? apart from 1 obvious thing: listening to music?
and if you do that, it cannot hear you?![]()

I was just having a discussion about this today, frankly I think the future of Siri is really on the Mac.
As our homes become more connected (smart appliances etc) do you want to go to your computer and push buttons to turn things on or off, set timers etc.? Just say "Siri, preheat the oven to 425." Or maybe one day "Siri, start up the car for me."
Even just to control apps on the Mac itself would be great. "Siri, open up Pro Tools and pull up last night's session". Or "Siri, see if there's a new episode of 'Breaking Bad' available yet."
Unlike a phone, which relies on batteries, your Mac desktop is always plugged in. Simply saying "Siri" (or even better if you could rename your personal assistant) could call up the program using the internal mic. Constantly powering a microphone on an iPhone would waste battery, but on a plugged in Mac would be inconsequential.
Maybe it's wishful thinking, but if it can be done on a phone, I can't imagine why it couldn't work on Macs that are infinitely more powerful.
ok i have a question
SIRI is a specialized software for just the iPhone 4S right? like it isn't bundled with iOS 5 or anything right
I can certanly understand why the Siri team was put to work for iOS first and foremost. Apple makes more money selling iPhones than any other product (thus far).
I am predicting that the focus will now switch to Mac OSX, making the whole mac experience much more different than the "other guys"...
I sure hope they do it fast !
Look at Steve Jobs presentation of the first Macintosh. "I'll let the Macintosh speak for itself", and watch/listen to the reaction of the crowd.
Quite frankly I am amazed that in 2011 we still don't have a good, accurate and natural voice control system for our computers. Siri will change that.
If it does ever come for Lion, it won't be free. Accounting rules mean Apple would have to charge for it, a la FaceTime on Snow Leopard.
Siri, open up a Pages document, and copy down what I say. 'blahblahblah.....' Siri, proof read it for me, and make sure to fix grammar and spellings for me. After you are done, send it to Mr. Stephan for me, will you?
Oh man, I'd love to see that happen.....
