As someone who's been slowly developing wrist problems from long hours typing and mousing around, I'm really hoping to see Siri or a similar implementation on the mac sooner rather than later.

I can't see any technical reason not to. My mac always has a more reliable and lower latency connection than anything sitting on a cell network, or even most wifi. Not to mention the teeny bit more ram the machine has, to keep more of Siri resident and perhaps deal with even more complex language.

I doubt we'll see it before 10.8, and frankly 10.9 would not surprise me. If Apple is going to bring it to the desktop I don't think it will be a direct port, and may even come after a hardware rev for the portables at least (the iPhone has dual microphones for noise canceling).

But damn I want Siri on my :apple:.

The next step....

I think one of the next steps will be some type of integration with Apple TV. That's the place where the user interface is lacking (Big-time). How nice would it be to "tell" your TV to: turn on Fox/CNN news, or record all episodes of "insert program title". All you would need is an Apple remote with a microphone. (or your iPhone/iPad),
I too would love to see Siri on ALL of my other apple devices. How nice would it be to tell Siri to: "run morning program" or "I'm leaving for work".
Siri interaction/interface IS the future. IMO, it's only a matter of time, before you'll just ask for things, and get them. The standard has been set.
I can remember when people have said,"you bought a 540 Meg hard-drive!!, how will you ever fill it!?" Some day people will speak of the iPhone 4S/Siri and the first time they used it in the same way.

I would love siri for mac.

My hands and fingers need a break.

The voice control right now for mac kind of sucks.

Can't wait to see this happen!

On the Apple web sight, the page about siri says "...It finds answers for you from the web through sources like Yelp and WolframAlpha..." If this is made possible through the iPhone's constant connection to the internet and the fact that you pay for a cell service plan, it may be slightly more difficult to integrate into OS X as a 3rd party but I think Apple will get to it soon. I don't think it should be too hard for them to do.

I use the speech commands that are already in OS X and really appreciate how much they can streamline things, especially now that I am using many things in full screen with lion. I can switch apps, open things, and use my address book very quickly now that I am used to the commands. I do, however, wish that it was more intuitive and flexible, which it seams that siri is. I can't wait to see this integrated into OS X by apple. As I understand it, the "Speech Recognition" that is built into OS X now hasn't been updated for quite a while and is therefor due for some attention at the very least.

Knowing that apple has already developed new speech tech like this just makes me frustrated that it isn't in the computers yet. They are after all a computer compony. Once its out of beta testing, it will be even more frustrating that its not in the computer, made by the compony with this technology, that I have put more than $2,500 into!

-"Siri, play me some porn"
-"I cant do that."
-"Do it Siri or i will remove your memory things and make you stupid, remember HAL"
-"Initating porn"

Aren't we missing the point?

I see Siri (get Siri(ous))as ultimately getting rid of the keyboard altogether. Surely thats the long term goal - to have the keyboard purely as a backup device?

You can get siri on mac now!

Well not directly but a new app called "Vocal" lets you control your mac by using voice commands on your iPhone 4S. You simply install the app on your Mac and your iPhone 4S, open the app on your iPhone and start telling your Mac what to do :p

The app lets you open and close applications, create new documents, play songs on iTunes, search definitions, webpages etc. It can basically do everything Siri does your phone but maybe even more for your mac. With the Vocal app there is actually a built in way that will let you create your own voice commands if your tech savvy enough.

Here's a video of me just briefly demoing the $1.99 Vocal app and showing what it can do.

If anyone else buys the app, I'd love to know what you think !

siri is deeply gimped garbageware. why would you want it on your mac so it can not do any of the many obvious functions it should be able to?

I was thinking about this earlier and the possibilities are endless, if you had a second display you could just say, "Siri, move this to my other screen" and it would move the current window over.

It could be truly revolutionary for the Mac, it's just 1) Whether they'll do it, 2) How much they'll charge and 3) How integrated they will make it.

It could be awesome.

Honestly I wish it came out on mac first, Apple in my mind seems to like to focus more on there phones then their computers and it sucks. I mean whens the last time you've seen an mac commercial, its been a while and I don't like it. I know their phones and tablets are their main business but its a bummer that they don't try to get more people to buy their computers. At least make a mid range option with decent specs for 800 dollars, oh well I guess that's just me. I still like my computer, being able to easily run any operating system I want is a godsend and the mac still gets good support.

I'd like our Macs to be more responsive like the computers in Iron Man and Red Planet. That would be really cool :)

这敢情好,不过以目前的mac机能估计达不到那么强大的计算量。如果以后的电脑有那么强的话,我猜键盘会成为语言障碍人士才会购买的配件。

altought siri is a good assistant on mobile devices , i dont think it could not be a good productive utility on desktop:rolleyes:

Siri as a Java app?

Why couldn't Apple port Siri as a Java app?
Thus making Siri potentially available on Windows and Linux, as well as on IOS and/or OSX. Then PC monitors would need to come equipped with a touch screen and a built-in microphone.

Siri on Macs?

What do you think the chances of having Siri on the next MacBooks are?

It obviously won't be as useful as on a phone, but it was still be pretty nifty and a nice feature.

Example: While doing homework, ask Siri to play a song. Or while you're typing a paper, have Siri look something up for you in the background.
