And given how it has gone with Siri for over a decade, I have no faith at all that they will ever catch up (let alone lead) in this area
If any other company besides Apple made the same mistakes, it would go bankrupt or see their products diminish in maximum a year.

You’ll only see this coming from Apple and only Apple can get away with this.

They totally rely on their brandname build up in the era of Steve Jobs. No other company would be so forgiven by their loyal customers.

Is it possible to pick a field where being misinformed matters less than the sports scores of the distant past? Meanwhile, can I put in a good word for the iPhone weather app? Very accurate on the strength of wind gusts and prevailing winds locally. The key is to not go outside when it is smoky. The iPhone weather app has pretty good wind direction & since I know where the fires are, I can make a good guess as to when it will be clear. 🍸🐈

The Weather app is a totally different discussion and topic than this

You predict that Apple will bad these other AI apps after their own AI is up to speed?

Do you have any historical evidence of Apple doing this in the past?
Sure and you would too, if you were both unbiased and observant. Apple regularly disallows competing apps and any App it does not like. Read some developer blogs. The media does not like to report it because they depend on Apple for revenue. But when AI becomes a revenue stream then look out. History is important.

Every time I ask Siri to provide the Super Bowl winner for a specific YEAR then the answer is always correct. Example: "Hey Siri, who won the Super Bowl in 1975?".

You also have to understand that some of the teams have changed names, so the winner for 1983 is announced as the Washington Commanders.

And I really applaud the writers of macrumors to not only publish cheering stories on macrumors, but also critical ones.

Cheering stories won’t push Apple to work harder on their shortcomings. At the moment there are plenty.
Mostly cheering stories tho…lol. I guess that’s their job, promote the hell out of Apple products. I actually feel sorry for their writers. With so little to actually write about, it’s becoming mostly articles announcing the latest beta releases or price discounts. Perhaps a rumor about a future hardware product that’s barely discernible from the current product. Poor guys must be bored out of their minds!

Well at least they let you hear some critical notes. There are some Apple sites that only publish cheering stories about Apple and when leaving a critical note they start an exorcism 😂

How many apps are on the "competing" app stores in the EU? Answer: very few. Epic, who is on record constantly complaining about Apple not wanting competition, had 1st party only apps on their EU store until just recently.

75% of the time when I ask Siri something on my M4 iPad Pro it will answer on my HomePod2, 5 rooms away!! Can’t even hear the answer! Something is seriously wrong at Apple.
The only way that's going to happen is if you have Siri turned off on your iPad. Major software updates, like a new version number, can change settings like that.

The weather app is consistently 5 to 10 degrees (F) wrong on the temperature. And since I ride motorcycles, I’m a fanatic about the weather. I run 3 to 4 weather apps and the Apple app is consistently wrong! How hard is it to pull the correct temperature from the web?! Jimminey jezuz…

True and that’s why I still read them!

That's because there is no EXACT temperature on the web. Example: the temperature on your home thermostat does not represent the temperature in every location of your house.

Sad embarrassment. This is not the 1996 Olympic Judo results, it's the freaking Super Bowl, the most watched game every year.
Also, not sure if it was highlighted, but Siri also answered that the Eagles beat the Packers in Super Bowl 60. Super Bowl 60 hasn't even been played yet. 🤦‍♂️
Just for fun, ask Siri who won the 60th Super Bowl instead.

Yeah, it gets forecasts so consistently wrong for the areas I go that I just continue to use normal bookmarks for NWS pages personally

That's the source data for most all of the weather apps anyhow (often with some algorithms and other software tweaks on top of it)

Tim Cook has overall done a fine job, but his time is over. It's time for a new CEO with fresh ideas and a spirit of innovation and demand for quality that seems lost.

Do people understand the significance of the high error rates inherent to LLMs?
Do people understand LLMs are just stochastic machines with zero intelligence?
It's so boring seeing articles about any LLM that generates what LLMs generate as if that's shocking.

Statistical text generator robot with inherently high error rates, being used for purposes it wasn't designed for, generates errors.

This is the recurring headline, just replace the nouns with brands and product names.

The AI hype seems to block so much thinking and actual intelligence.

Know your tools.
Use your tools wisely.
For what they're designed for.
Don't use a microwave oven to try to freeze your popsicles.
It also helps if you read more than marketing and PR.
Hm, maybe that's the issue.

Of course but I’m not talking about degree or two Fahrenheit. It’s off by A LOT! Last night it said it was 10° F warmer here than any other weather app I use, which were all within 2 degrees of each other. I’m not entirely hating on it, I love the layout, the types of info provided and some other features… I just want the info correct.
