Apple is considering integrating Siri's on-screen interface into the Dynamic Island on newer iPhones, according to an anonymous source who has been sharing details about alleged new features coming in iOS 17.

Currently, invoking Siri with a button press or using the "Hey Siri" spoken command causes an animated sphere to appear at the bottom of the screen. The sphere remains overlaid on the screen while the virtual assistant listens, and any details relevant to the request are displayed at either the top or bottom of the screen in the form of a card, with background content dimmed.

Moving the Siri UI to the Dynamic Island would likely allow onscreen content to stay in full view. Originally, the Siri interface would take over the entire screen whenever the user interacted with the virtual assistant, but Apple made this optional in iOS 14 when it adopted the current, more compact interface.

According to the anonymous tipster, Apple "may or may not go with the Dynamic Island version of Siri" that it is presently testing, although "many more" notifications are coming to the pill-shaped interface. Apple is expected to expand the Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models this year. You can read more about other alleged improvements coming to iOS 17 in our previous coverage.

Not a positive change IMO. Just change for the sake of change. Siri is easier to use handheld/one-handed when the round button appears at the bottom, as Siri can be invoked again to ask follow up questions, or for the inevitable necessity to repeat what you asked it in the first place.

Alternatively, when Siri misunderstands you, the text box can be pressed so you can type your inquiry instead, which often is faster/more reliable than actually speaking to Siri.

I have a 14 Pro Max, and I like what the Dynamic Island brings to the device in some use cases, but Apple shoehorning in features that are functionally worse just to justify its existence…. that ain’t the move.

where the ugly siri blob shows up is less important to me than "hmm. i seem to have run into a problem. maybe try again later." or "i don't see person x in your phonebook, would you like to call [exact same name] instead?"
Had a similar issue with the GPS a few weeks ago.

With CarPlay on: “Hey Siri, drive me to X”
(A minute of crunching)
Siri: “Sorry I can’t find X”

Tried a couple of times, and I do know that X exists and she pronounces it correctly, so he understands it.

I then open Maps in CarPlay and dictate the directions. Siri finds the place.

Siri was released around 11 years and Open AI was founded 7 years ago respectively. But Apple with trillions in bank was overtaken by all other AI services. Either Apple write siri from the scratch or remove it completely and give access to other AI services.

so moving closer to th speaker should improve listening skills? /s
I gave Siri a try years ago and have long given up, and reading the comments here, much remind to be improved

The only reason I enable Siri is that may car requires it for Car Play.
