You have no idea what you are talking about.

Nobody said it was new but the development of the technology is absolutely cutting edge and only available from apple

Actually - the integration is only available from Apple. The technology has existed for a long time and several apps have similar functionality - they just weren't bought by Apple and integrated...

I would add to the Siri app was a limited demo of the product limited by the computing power of the older phones. All of this has been discussed over and over why did you choose to ignore it?

There's nothing wrong with :apple: doing this. And maybe in testing it and found that it runs optimally on the 4s and was buggy/laggy on the older models (wrecking the Siri experience). ;)

Siri is like the ipad. It isn't new, nor did Apple invent it, but they are trying to make it as accessible to as many people as possible. I feel they at least deserve some credit for this effort.

After all, I don't think there is any other program out there which comes even remotely close to what Siri promises?

That may be.
But, maybe Siri requires 1GB of ram to cache and store all requests - it's a "conversation" so it has stored all requests/questions in real time, and not write them to the flash.

But, no one has the phone to review - or confirm any of this. So why bother arguing over it? :p

Wait a minute... We still don't know if the iPhone 4S has 1GB RAM or not... It may be the same as iPad 2 - 512MB RAM.

I swear, the manner of posts I see here almost make me ashamed to own an iPhone.

I can understand being excited about technology, but never have I seen such blind fascination with a company.

What I saw yesterday was fine, but I'm sure I can live without it till my contract is up.

Siri is very impressive. I can't wait to play with it a bit. Voice control on my 3Gs has never worked right, so hopefully this will work much better. From the keynote it seems very advanced.

The real thing I am waiting for though, is voice add-ons. I want mine to sound like Majel Barrett Roddenberry. Yeah it's nerdy, but you know you want it too ;)

Plus, maybe Siri requires the dual core A5 chip to run properly?

Calling it just software seems irrational.

Actually it is. It's RAM and processor prohibiting UI/feature smoothness/speed and in their eyes, user experience. You'll get it on a JB, sure, but it won't be as speedy or smooth.

Wrong. Please stop parroting the b.s. you've read elsewhere by other speculators. Siri and Dragon Dictation worked absolutely flawlessly on my iPhone 3GS 18 months ago. It does not take a dual core processor and a gig of ram to perform voice recognition and AI integration. Regardless of the improvements Apple has made to the software, at worst you'd probably have to wait 2-3 seconds longer for a solution from siri per request.

Please recognize the marketing aspect of this for the iPhone 4S. Other than Siri, there are few selling points that apply to a broad spectrum of consumers for the 4S. Of course the A5 and camera are improvements, but your average user, which you must dwell on when you sell 5M+ units per quarter, doesn't really latch onto these.

Novelty sells. Other than the HSDPA, which doesn't apply to any CDMA users, the most significant novelty feature to net a broad market would be Siri.

But to be frank, the fact that its "the newest iPhone" and it runs iOS markets better than any feature they could have put on the 4S, save for true 4G speeds.

It will be interesting come the obvious jailbreak attempt at opening up Siri for the iPhone 4, how well the phone handles it. I can't imagine it being too bad, although the 3GS would probably struggle a fair bit. If anything the 4 may just take longer to work out the question. Gaining the answer is just a simple Google search but in Siri form, working out the voice is where the power will be needed.

My post wasn't hating on the 4s really. It was more about the flurry of posts discussing Siri as if it was new.

The transcription is handled on apples servers I believe. Like most other speech to text searchers.
