Why do people want to browse the file system on their iOS device anyway?

Opening up the iOS file system could potentially bring NodeJs, Ruby, Java, etc to iOS devices, which in turn, would make the iPad Pro deserving of its pro moniker as the potential for a terminal and various pro features could finally be a reality.

That's just one reason.

Because I want to have one place for all of my files to be stored like on the PC. I don't want it cut off and decentralize like it is on iOS currently. Give me one app that I can use to see all of my files...make it simple, Apple.

Isn't that what the iCloud Drive app does?

Icloud or buy android phone

I'm assuming that a 3 year old hardware has not enough power or not capable of runnig SIRI. Don't be surprise if Apple won't include the update on your macs.

I see, so you're saying a feature that adds great power and flexibility to iOS is pointless, because we could clumsily use icloud instead, or ditch all our investment in the ios ecosystem and just go to android?

Are you joking or are suggesting Apple is that lame?

Asked: Does Siri talk to a Macintosh?

Siri: Interesting question.

I expected she'd want to do a web search or say she doesn't understand.

I like to organise my content for my uni courses by subject... which gets stupidly complex when I want to store images, keynotes, pages files and videos in one folder... then you end up with duplicates copying things in and out. It simply shouldn't be that had.

In 2011 when I bought my iPad 2 I was an ardent supporter of the iPad for productivity, but slowly thats dropped off as things have remained so bloody complex. iOS 9 started in the right direction but there is still some way to go.
The last iPad I purchased was the iPad 4. It's slow and old but it's just a big old iPod. When they announced the iPad Pro they talked about how it could replace a laptop, but it still lacks access to the file system. Nothing has really changed in the last 3 years. It will actually be a contender to replace my laptop as soon as they let me have access to the file system.

No, I am talking about access to your device's file system (local storage)...not something resembling a file system on the cloud.

iOS really wasn't made for local storage. SJ's vision was always about cloud storage.

Sure it was made for local storage. For instance, you store music, photos, etc. on iOS don't you? There is a reason that they sell they are now selling iPad's with up o 256GB of storage...because things need to be stored locally and people want to do so.

I know that Steve Jobs had an irrational hatred of file system access, which is how iOS's file storage got all wonky, but what Jobs wanted doesn't matter very much anymore, so Apple can go in whatever direction they desire.

This isn't Siri referencing Finder ... this is her typical response when you ask her just about anything.

"What's the weather like today?"

"I love lamp."
