Looks awful, sure covers up a lot of the touch pad, right & left clicking would be a hassle

Just curious, why would you want a case for your remote?
Ergonomics -- I wish the remote were thicker, the size of the Roku and FireTV remotes feels perfect in my hand. In use, those remotes 'rest' in your hand while buttons are pressed. The ATV4's remote has to be gripped to provide support when clicking the touchpad. I'm waiting for the Griffin Survivor one to launch, much nicer than the case mentioned in this thread -- doesn't cover up the touchpad and adds some thickness to the remote.

Protecting the remote isn't a concern for me personally, I'm not concerned whether or not it gets scratched up.

Different needs for different users -- I'm not looking to protect my remote, just make it thicker without detracting from it's use.
If u want thicker the case I posted looks bigger then the one you posted

It's quite ugly, and covers too much of the touch pad -- would interfere with right and left clicking. Also covers much more of the surface of the remote than I care for, the entire lower part. Not a lot of thought went into the design. Not a debate, just a preference. But hey, sounds as though you like it -- so enjoy ;)

Because some people are clumsy and constantly appear to drop these remotes. They are made out of glass and break when dropped. All of the cases in this thread look cheap and not well engineered.

Not necessarily clumsy, my nerve damage causes my arm to spasm without warning. My Siri remote (and harmony, but that's beside the point) has been hurled across the room onto the floor, coffee table, fireplace, an unsuspecting napping dog and against the wall a few times. Not a scratch on it. I don't think they're quite as fragile as we might first think.

Still, some people like to be extra safe, nothing wrong with that. That god awful silicone cover on the other hand, ewwww, find a better option:D

For the same reason you put a case on a phone ?
I wish I had a case on my harmony one
You put a case on a phone because a phone costs hundreds of dollars, you carry it with you everywhere, and it will not likely survive a drop onto concrete.

A remote is much cheaper to replace.

You don't carry a remote everywhere.

Your living room is likely not concrete.

A case for everything and everything in its case is such an Apple centric invention. 20 years ago, before there was an iPod, the concept of putting a TV remote in a case would have been the domain of an SNL sketch, a la Phil Hartman as The Anal Retentive Fisherman.

The topic heading for this thread couldn't be any more self-explanatory, and you clearly have no interest in remote casings -- why bother to read it, much less post such negative responses?

I have dropped my tv remotes more times then my iPhone
My $150 harmony one

You forget the remote is on your lap sometimes

$10 case or buy another remote for $80

I'll take the $10 case
But like others mentioned is more for making the remote thicker

So negative responses like yours ("it's fugly") are ok, but ones like mine that try to get people to actually think about their purchases before making them out of pure habit aren't?

You're right, I don't have an interest in a remote case, but I do have an interest in getting my fellow humans to stop wasting money and resources on crap no one needs. Every piece of plastic junk costs another few gallons of oil to make and ship, puts another dollar toward the trade imbalance between the US and China, and shoots another puff of carbon filled smoke into the atmosphere.

And again, if you suggested buying a case for a TV remote 20 years ago, you would have been laughed out of town.

But it's ok people. Buy all the cases you want. Buy buy buy. Just keep using up oil by making junk, and shipping it around the globe. You'd better get it while you can, because eventually the oil will be gone and there won't even be any Apple TVs to watch, let alone a precious remote to protect. Hurry and buy before there's nothing left to buy!

That would be so petty, 20 years ago or now, for someone to attach so much significance on whether another person purchased a case for their remote. Takes all kinds I guess... whatever

Almost as petty as putting a case on something so not case worthy as a TV remote.

An Apple TV remote case is no different than the vinyl cover on a grandmother's couch. No less useless. No less tacky. No less a waste of plastic.

Yeah, sorry, littering is cool. And unregulated Chinese factories billowing tons of toxic smoke, oil sucking cargo ships ferrying tons of useless crap to stupid consumers, and landfills and oceans filled with the thoughtlessly discarded plastic trinkets of the selfish, materialistic, and shortsighted are even cooler. Happy Black Friday/Cyber Monday everyone!

Are these types of comments your form of 'activism'? What went into the components of what you're typing on... making calls on... driving in... flying on... You may want to rethink that, watch another documentary maybe. Watch Blue Gold: Water Wars, that's a good one...
