I set up more than a dozen shortcuts for Overcast (many for playing specific podcasts), and none of them where working starting the day the article was published. I was going to delete Overcast and go back to Apple's Podcast app as I know Siri works just fine for the stock app.

I noticed this last night. A quick fix is just to re-record your Siri phrase in the shortcut. Obviously if people have a lot of shortcuts that's a problem, but I only had a few and it seemed to work.

Check the audio settings for navigation by pulling up on the panel that shows your ETA, remaining distance, etc. If that doesn't fix it, try selecting the voice you'd expect (American male/female or whatever) in Settings > Siri & Search, since I suppose it's possible that the voice hasn't been downloaded. I don't think the Voice Feedback section has any impact on navigation, but that's worth a shot too.
Thanks the recent update must have messed up the voice once i re downloaded them it is working .

Didn’t work for me. I re-recorded a couple of Overcast shortcuts and it’s like Siri doesn’t even recognize Overcast or I am given an app error.

The several million dollar question here is, "Why does Apple keep failing in the AI and ML spaces while Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are thriving?"
Forestall was fired in 2012 and replaced with Cue for Siri development. Rumor is that Federighi is now taking over Siri. Perhaps this latest boo-boo is a result of the ongoing reorganization.

While Apple does not get a complete pass here, their stance on privacy does it make it harder. AI/ML requires data. Gathering and using that data while also maintaining privacy adds a complicated hurdle that the other companies care less about.

You’re very naive if you think who is running a department has anything to do with an issue like this.

For those not clear on the matter, the Siri Shortcut is not the same thing as a Shortcut -- i.e. what you create in the Shortcuts app. You can edit Siri Shortcuts via Settings->Siri & Search->My Shortcuts or in the Shortcuts app by going to the settings for a shortcut and then to Siri Phrase. Either way takes you to the same screen where there is a Delete Shortcut link in red.
None of my Siri shortcuts show up in the Shortcuts app.

NB: Just realized merging dissimilar posts has a negative effect for people wanting to use thumbs. Another "feature" that perhaps isn't really an improvement.

It sucked in 2011 and guess what? It still sucks in 2018. It has NOT improved in the 7 years its been out at all. That's why I always say when people use it, they can't be taken seriously. Its still in beta after all these years.

It should be immediately disabled on any new iphone so it doesn't take away from the experience.

Damn, I guess my daily usage is just my imagination.

I can't believe one of the most valuable tech company in the world can't fix Siri.

Can't imagine this depends on a Web service. It seriously needs to support offline operation!

IMO this is Siri's biggest failing... complete dependance on that gossamer thread of a network connection. Easily half the things I'd like Siri to be able to do shouldn't require any network connection whatsoever.

I understand more powerful processing can be accomplished by sending your requests away to the cloud, but there isn't any reason decent voice recognition and phrase triggers can't be built into the OS. Dragon's been doing it since the late 90s, and the client-side processing power available these days is light-years ahead of desktop CPUs of yore! Just seems ludicrous if I want Siri to set a timer on my phone, she has to route that request to the mothership.

Then the mostly awaited Siri extension is passing along to Alexa.

Still not working for me, even after re-recording the shortcuts.

Edited to add: Had to go into settings delete the shortcut and then re-record the Siri command, in order to get it to work again.

Well when the vast majority of people complain about (online, in real life, on here) that kind of says a lot. Its not good software, its actually very bad. I see no improvement on my iPhone 8 versus my 4s running ios 6.

First off, don't throw your credentials out there. Your Ph.D doesn't mean baloney to me. And it certainly doesn't give you any more creditability with me versus a high school drop out on here. And I have used it recently, on my iPhone 8 plus and it spits out the same type of garbage it did 7 years ago, often not understanding me or getting it wrong. That's why its best if it just be disabled. Its pointless and its truly laughable when it goes out or its shortcuts stop working and people get all mad. I am one of the very few who gets off on that. I love reading when Apple fails, like the Xs/X4 ( a horribly designed smartphone IMO) doesn't sell well.

I suggest you read some of my other posts on these forums from the last 10 years and I'm sure you'll see I'm no fan of siri...

I hate Siri as much as the next person but if you think Siri shortcuts is just Siri you’re missing the point. It’s far better than on the 4s but I agree still quite lacking.

YES!! This was the key. I tried deleting the shortcut from the Shortcuts app, which did not work unless I changed the phrase. Then trying to change the phrase back to the original gave "This phrase is already in use." But, like BasicGreatGuy said, going to Settings>Siri & Search>MyShortcuts and deleting the shortcut there - and then returning to the Shortcuts app to re-record works! Thanks.

Does doing this delete the actual shortcut so I’d need to re-add the whole thing? Or just delete the associated voice command?

It appear to only delete the voice command, so that you only need to re-record your existing shortcut to make it work.
