I can Google for help over dial-up faster than Siri can answer my questions.

It's been in beta since 2011. Why can't Apple make it faster?

Google's voice search seemed to come out of no where and is way better than Siri, already.

Your on Googles D and complaining about a two year beta? Wasn't gmail on beta for many many years?

I use Siri a lot when dictating text messages... The other day when I tried to dictate a long one that was important she gave me some stupid quote telling me to try again in fewer words. I didn't think it was cute or cool, I found it obnoxious and infuriating that Apple cant handle the data so they come up with a stupid way to try and be silly about it. This is stupid, not helpful.

Apple engineers: CHANGE THIS.

Apple should crowd source Siri's intellegence. Maybe have an opt in Beta mode that asks you questions back. For example:

Is Nickelback a good band?

Every time Siri gets a question she doesn't know the answer to she keeps a record of it. Then she asks the beta testers the most popular questions until she has an answer. In this case:

Generally people find Nickelback to be a terrible band. But there are at least 10 million embarrassed closet fans who have bought their albums.

Eventually every question anyone has will have a crowd sourced appropriate answer. There could be a human element of course that researches questions with disparate or flagged as wrong/inapproriate answers.

Generally the correct answer will probably rise to the top. Matters of opinion would be dealt with more like a poll.

I probably wouldn't have cared about this if it hasn't been for the fact that, while driving, I use Siri to compose a txt message so that I don't have to take my attention off the road. Now with this updated Siri, she won't bother to create a txt message that has more than about 5-10 words in it, rendering Siri completely useless for me now; that's the only way I actually used Siri and now it's busted. Stupid thing for apple to do.

I hate all these quirky things Apple does with Siri. Just gives people more of a reason to hit up Siri with stupid questions wondering what kind of response they'll get back. Apple needs to make Siri more functional, not more 'cute'.

I got one of the quotes a few days ago...
It was while I was trying to send a text message though, not a question to Siri

Apple, the gimmicks are fun and all, but my advice is to hold them back from any future updates until you can pair them with meaningful improvements. Otherwise you'll just be mocked. Why subject yourself to that?

On a separate but related note, I've had Siri give me these smartass responses while trying to dictate a text message or an email. Siri had just finished asking me "Ok, what would you like your message to say" so it was in the right mode, but still came back acting like I was asking a long-winded question rather than dictating a message. WTH?

Instead of a long-winded quote in response to our long-winded question how about a simple "TL;DR".

and by "DR" Siri means "Sorry, still in beta".

a Reddit thread from last week appears to contain the first known instance of the phrasing, suggesting that Siri's new quoting ability was added within the last week or two.

For what it's worth, I have a screenshot of the first time I saw it on my iPad from May 5, 2013. So it was definitely there by then.

And while it's better than having Siri just say "I couldn't understand you" or "there was an error", I'm pretty annoyed that Apple can't just solve problems with their products.

More importantly, 2% decrease in battery life in approx 5 minutes!

At that rate, you'd lose 100% in just over 4 hours.

I agree 100%. It seems like every post prior to this one was about dictating long questions to Siri. I had this silly response when I tried dictating an important text. My son was sick, and I needed to ask my wife several questions.

I ended up pulling up the iMessage app manually, and using Siri's dictation feature to send the text. What a pain. Particularly in California, where touching your phone at a stop light is a ticket-able offense.
