The sound quality is a function of the quality of the tuner in the radio; not specifically the service itself. It sounded awful on the factory radio in my Wrangler but when I added an aftermarket radio with one of the new tuners it is now a night and day difference. The typical factory radio probably has a **** tuner in it.

Exactly, the sound quality out of an Onyx Plus hooked up to decent speakers is top notch.

Interesting - I tried it out today too and I was really impressed. Stations loaded instantly and seemed easy to navigate. Album art was quick too.

Tried this out today and it doesn’t work very well, if at all. Takes forever to load then I press a station and nothing happens for literally five minutes and then as I’m listening to regular radio it kicks on and won’t easily let me back into my other regular FM.

Where are you seeing album art? I get the radio station logo as the background on “now playing” in CarPlay. On the stereos UI, the album art area is also the stations logo.

Yeah it’s weird. I’m using an iPhone X with a pioneer 4200NEX head unit. I can’t get get it to work nicely at all still.

Have you tried unpairing your phone from Bluetooth? Discovered Bluetooth kept trying to come back on every time Siri or a song would try to play, and it would cut out audio completely until an unplug/replay. This was CarPlay wife though not just siriusxm.

Good idea. I’ll give that a try.

On my BMW 17 5 Series - it shows in the background and I can split the screen and show the album art all on its own.

I like the live aspect of Satellite radio and the selection. I have Apple Music as well but the "live" radio is not something I find appealing. It's also edited (profanity). They play some weird songs as well.

Just nice to flip channels with no commercials and you find what you want. I was big on the 80's channel as well. Not many options here locally. Terrestrial radio is filled with commercials and ads. I swear most stations are just ad stations with some music mixed in.
Fair enough. I have the TuneIn Radio app which allows me to listen to about any station I can think of (including ad free BBC ones). Fair enough if you like that, just seems like a lot of money to me. I'm one of these people that's all about reducing their fixed monthly outgoings down to nothing.
Spotify + normal radio + TuneIn app pretty much has me covered. I'll be able to listen to the BBC if I ever get homesick in the states. Hoping to find three people to pay me $5 each for spotify then I'll have it for free for me and the other half.

Unrelated but how is the new 5 series? I haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

I keep thinking I’m wasting the cars ability to use Bluetooth by doing that, but at the same time I will always have my phone with me and most likely always plugged in, so it’s moot. Eventually a future vehicle will support wireless CarPlay but then you lose charging which is the nice benefit of making it a habit to plug in. Let us know if the Bluetooth thing works for you, I have not had an issue since unpairing.

Haha, must be a BMW perk!

I was excited about this addition. I have an aftermarket unit from Planet Audio in the Jeep and got rid of the SiriusXM tuner when I changed things out. Since I have several more months of the free SiriusXM that came with the Jeep, I am happy to have access right from CarPlay.

Personally, I like SiriusXM for the talk radio more than the music. However, when my subscription runs out, I will just add the internet feature to my girlfriend's SiriusXM account for her vehicle (which she would not be happy without). It is just a nice option to have available for nothing or a few extra bucks a month.
