Skipping M2, I guess. It's pretty silly that even after moving off Intel, Apple still won't do regular revisions of the internals.
Too true. If Apple is releasing new chips every year then they should be releasing new Macs with those chips in them every year. It's not like the engineers are kept in the dark about what's upcoming in the new chips, or aren't given early access to pre-production units.

Too bad they're handicapping the Macbook Air with limits on the RAM. Don't understand why they wouldn't allow 32GB in one. After getting my 14" Pro with 16GB, never again do I skimp on RAM.

so excited for 15" MacBook air and new HomePod.

my 2015 MBP needs to be updated. I guess I'll either go 15"MBA or 16"MBP depending on what gets released and how $$$

as for the HomePod, the original was great, but was far too expensive. I got mine when they went on super sale, ($199) and that felt like the right price.

"Other than new iPhones and Apple Watches, which are expected every year, there are other products to look forward to from Apple."

Other than the headset, the others could fall into that "expected every year" category as well...

Me either as long as it does not cost as much as the MBP.

I think if the 13” M2 Air is any indication it will peak out at a pretty high price. Starting at $1399 is my guess if they even put the base specs in it. They could milk everyone and say it requires the higher 10-Core GPU. I wouldn’t put it past them.

i honestly wouldn’t mind if this happened this way, at least we’d have a road map for it and could plan accordingl…
The last three pro desktop Macs (trashcan Mac Pro, iMac Pro, current cheese grater Mac Pro) that Apple sold were announced during WWDC and went on sale in December of the same year. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple announced the Apple Silicon Mac Pro during WWDC 2023 and have it go on sale December 2023. Yes, that would mean the full transition would be a year late but oh well. Not a huge deal really.

I think the M2 ultra will be the jolly here...
It would be very weird to announce and M2 Ultra 7 months after the M1 Ultra and it would be equally weird to release an M2 Ultra/Etreme mac without an M2 Ultra Mac Studio.

Given how apple also has to update other hardware this fall (iPad, iPad Pro, apple TV4k, Airpods Max 2, M2 Pro/Max Macbook Pros, Mac Mini, iMac?), I think the most logical plan would be to tease the Mac Pro in November and then release it in March with the M2 Ultra/Extreme chips.

The transition promise doesn't take into account the difficulty of converting an upgradable intel Mac workstation to a fixed design Apple Silicon Mac workstation like all the other Apple Mac products.

I equate this challenge to be more like how SGI tackled this issue by having a OS that could interface with multiple boards with multiple processors all working in parallel to achieve in the 90's what a super computer could do in a smaller cabinet. There are many example of STEs that could just install another board for specific purposes that UNIX could see and use to perform some I/O or processing. This is not like a plug in board like the present intel Mac Pro represents. It requires components that you can kit together for a given performance requirement. This is a whole another level of what represents a component based computer solution.

This is going to paralyze a bunch of people with indecision. Wait for a maybe 15" MBA? Wait for a maybe iMac redesign? Wait how long?
What to do, what to do?

Let's not forget that we still have the Intel Mac mini. The Mac Pro isn't the only Intel machine left
The reality here is that this will never be more than a M Series Pro SOC machine, as long as the Mac Studio remains a M series Max and Ultra SOC machine… so that’s not going to be a headline grabber… the more interesting question is why its still being sold and I can only surmise that Apple had agreements to buy certain quantities of Intel good and keeping that Mini on Intel helped fulfil some contractual obligation…

I suspect the next round of updates will see the mini series expanded in its customisation ability and you’ll be able to choose between M2 and M2 Pro and the Intel machine will disappear…

The Ultra will remain as M2 Max and M2 Ultra and then that leaves the Mac Pro offering M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme…

Streamlines the whole experience… but I don’t think any of this will happen until the Ultra is 12 months old, so thats well into next year….

My next Apple products that will need upgrading are my Apple watch and iPhone. I’m waiting for the next gen Apple Watch Ultra (I’d like to see a true new generation of silicon). For the iPhone, I’m waiting until they switch to USB-C.

Where is the updated Intel based Mac Pro Tim Cook said a couple years ago they'd deliver?
Where did Tim say that?

He said more Intel Macs in the pipeline which they delivered in Aug 2020 with the 27" 10th gen iMac.

Tim NEVER said the next the Intel Mac will be a Mac Pro.

There’s always going to be something”new and exciting” NEXT YEAR. and there will always be people saying “I can’t wait for this or that”, even when, in the case of Apple, their insane programmed obsolescence shouldn’t justify any excitement at all.

I disagree. We still have 3nm, 2nm chips to come out and also hardware based RT and then who knows.
Isn't changing the chip considered a revision? The consumer couldn't care less how many nanometers the chip is. It doesn't add anything but a bit more performance in the long run.
