Off contract this fall, so it's a wait and see ... I'll only have interest in upgrading if they offer a NEW TouchID model ... if not, I'm hanging with the 7.

Of course any decision to NOT upgrade will not go over very well in the secondary Apple eco-system i.e. the family, who have become accustomed to the free hand-me-downs.

Where are the options for Android users? I'm on a Galaxy S7, I plan on getting the 10S Plus most likely, assuming that they fix the X reception problems, and add B14 and 4x4 MIMO.

It’s either an iPhone 8 or keeping my 6S. I’m not liking the rumours about the LCD model not having touchID so that could be dead in the water for me. I’ve got no interest paying upwards of a grand for a phone either so the X is not even a consideration.

Apple have got very dull with their offerings in the last 2 years but it does mean I’m being forced to save a bit of cash. Every cloud.

If a new SE ever materializes, I may sell my X and downsize depending on what the specs are. I have been itching for a truly one-handed phone for the past few months. Otherwise, I’ll keep my X for at least another year. I’m already pretty over big phones, especially at the prices Apple has started charging for them. No way am I spending $1000 again this year.

If we don’t see an iPhone SE 2 refresh by WWDC 2018 in the next three weeks, then I would say the likeliness of an SE refresh at all is highly unlikely for 2018, given that three iPhones already expected to launch in fall 2018. I don’t believe the iPhone SE is in need of a refresh this year, as it still functions perfectly fine with iOS 11, but It will be interesting to see if Apple refreshes it ever again.

Bought an iPhone 8 RED a couple weeks ago and sold the X. Got AC+ on it and plan to hang onto it as a back up at the very least for the next couple years. Will get the battery replaced when AC+ is about to expire. I will never buy another phone with a notch in the screen. So I'll be on the 8 and whatever Android doesn't have a notch (S9 at present) until Apple can win me back.

After looking at what the Google assistant can do now after yesterday's announcement, and after a few other niggles like Apple Maps causing problems in the car, my plan is this.

If Apple gives us a new iPhone SE I'm very happy to stay with a small iPhone. I love a small phone.

If they don't, and the smallest iPhone (8) is heavier than some good Android alternatives I'll switch to Android.

I love my X. Easily the best iPhone I've had (and I've had them all). For reference, once the 6/6Plus came out, I went with Plus models every year.

Cannot wait to upgrade to the 'X-S Plus' (or whatever it's going to be called) this fall. This phone with an even larger screen? Yes please.

The RED is awesome, but doesn't the haptic touch "button" just feel clunky and heavy compared to the X's smooth swipe up?

No it honestly doesn't matter all that much to me. Unlocking with touch ID is usually faster than face ID was. Both methods have their advantages.

Fair enough. I was just thinking switching between apps, in the times I've played with the phones, is so much slower on the 8 Plus than the X. The X just feels so much lighter in software.

WOW. I just watched a YouTube video of FaceID and TouchID, and TouchID is a LOT faster for unlocking the phone, even though it's slower for switching apps. Very interesting.

In fairness, Face ID is a first generation biometric security method, entirely different from touch ID, which is a second generation form of biometric security, which has been refined it from where it was when it first launched with the 5s.

It depends on use. Where Face ID shined for me was website passwords and Apple Pay. It was so quick and seamless. Quicker than Touch ID in those cases, but we're talking barely perceptible differences. I guess I had a good Face ID module in my X, as I was easily able to unlock it just by peering over the screen at an angle while on my desk. But it still doesn't compare to just pressing *any* finger on the Touch ID button regardless of where the phone is, to unlock it.

Closing apps, the old way on the iPhone 8 is so much better than long press and swipe up on the X. Apple needs to address this in iOS 12 / iPhone XS. Closing apps should never take as long as it takes on the X.

How the hell can FaceID be quicker than TouchID when using Apple Pay; TouchID is ONE step whereas FaceID is TWO step.

With raise to wake enabled the phone was already awake when I held it up to the credit card reader. Just look at the phone, it was done. With Touch ID, I still have to physically touch the home button when Apple Pay activates. Face ID was quicker for me.

I'm talking about just pulling out the phone from my pocket and phone locked. Face ID was faster. If the phone is already unlocked (with Touch ID) right when pulling it out of my pocket, I suppose I can see where Touch ID would be faster with Apple Pay...since it is already unlocked. Strangely, I have never used it like that and have always just pressed the Touch ID button when holding it up to the card reader. I will have to unlock my 8 right when I pull it out of my pocket next time and see.

My iPhone 7 is always locked - I have my thumb on the TouchID coming out of my pocked and hold it over the reader and presto the transaction is complete - the screen goes black, the iPhone remains in the locked mode.

Something new without FID and a Notch would be good :) And not as thick and lighter :)

I feel like they should make a 9/9 Plus and keep the basic paradigm of the OG iPhone for at least one more generation, as it's so smooth and refined... but the X is the future. They just have to work out all the kinks in it. That being said, the 8/8 Plus probably has a good 5 year lifespan form this point forward if the history of iOS updates is any indication. By then FID should be much better/faster.

What's this "raise to wake stuff" with Apple Pay? YOU DON"T NEED TO WAKE UP THE PHONE TO USE APPLE PAY.

With my iPhone 6, I just pick up the phone, move it to near the terminal and it wakes up automatically. With my thumb already on the Touch ID, it records the purchase. ONE STEP. No looking at the phone, no swiping up, no double tapping this or that. It just works in one smooth continuous motion.

iPhone 6 still going strong. Over the winter I did a nuke and pave, and had the battery replaced. Works perfectly fine. I was given an iPhone 8 for work. Using them side by side, functionally I don’t see a significant difference. The cost of a new phone these days is making me really pause.

iPhone 6 Plus user, I love the bigger screen but thinking of getting the smaller phone this time, since i bought the iPhone i upgraded my iPad to Pro 10.5, i really don’t need the bigger screen as i can carry my iPad to work or i’m Home most of the time, i’m still a bit undecided though. I look at peoples smaller phones and think they’re just way to small. Also the larger phones are a bit of a bugger to carry in pants/jeans pockets for me.

I'll keep my 5S until the sad day it stops being supported with updates. It does what I want, it's robust as not stupidly slim and has just the right screen size for me.

My iPhone 7 Plus 256GB Jet Black that I got in december is serving me just fine. It's also very beautiful (using it caseless) and doesn't have the fragile glass back which I don't really like.

I would only switch to another phone if it made economical sense or if my 'needs' change (right now I'm consuming a lot of video, hence the Plus size).

Actually, forget what I just said. The new models will be exciting and I'll want them even if they're very expensive. The X didn't do it for me, but a refined model with a bigger screen at a lower price will be hard to avoid.
