I would be happy with no camera. People that hold up ipads to take pictures look funny. I'm more concerned about resolution and processor speed.

This could be any square piece of metal with a sharpied Apple logo on. They look really fake. I'd be shocked if Apple launched a tablet without a camera on at this stage of the game.

I wouldnt, it'll give people a reason to get the 'full sized' iPad and allows them to sell a sub 8" iPad for less because they aren't putting in a retina screen or a camera. It'll make the current gen iPad the premium version.

Anybody heard anything about a price point?

Be really surprised to see an iPad mini (if this exists) without a camera. Would almost make more since for the mini.

Wouldn't taking a picture with a 7inch tablet look less cumbersome than someone taking one with a DSLR?

Wouldn't having a friend take the picture be easier? :D That way one could find a better backdrop than the TP dispenser.

No camera you say, huh? if I know apple they would probably hide it. plus,
its a draft. if you found it in the trash can it could be bad copy. or maybe its
It really "camera less "

Considering this would be the more 'portable' device out of the two iPads, not having a camera is a game-breaker for me.

Secondly, many people use their iPad (even though it's bulky as hell) to take pictures.

How could Apple NOT include a camera on the more 'portable' version of the device..and especially a GOOD camera.

Well, Facetime only needs a front facing camera though.

And taking pictures requires a 'back' camera. Considering again this would be the more 'portable' version of the iPad, Apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if it didn't have one.

I can't see Apple doing something this stupid. If they are going to enter the 7" market, they are going to enter the 7" market with a bang...and not give the reviewers, newspapers and websites fodder to rag on them.

Want! Want! Want!

No rear camera? I don't care I've never used the iPad camera in my iPad2. It's just not good enough. I'm buying this the day it comes out, hopefully having no camera makes it really cheap and more then likely I would maintain a data plan with this iPad because I would carry it a lot more then I carry my 64gig iPad2. I'm pretty sure Apple has studied our movements to establish whether people are carrying these iPads with them a lot and whether they pay for a data service. A smaller unit makes more sense to have a data plan on it.

yeah cuz an iPod Touch would have an camera but not the iPad Mini. riiiiiiight. dont see that happening. especially with apple trying to push Facetime forward

Well if the primary markets are Education, Retailers, Kiosks and cheapskates then no cameras starts to make a bit more sense.

I would be in the market of an iPad mini if it had a good back camera with a flash. It would serve my purposes.

The Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7 ($199 both) do not have a camera, however the Google Nexus 7 does contain a front-facing camera (The Kindle does not).

Neither the Nook Color or Nook Tablet ($169 and $249) contain rear-facing or front facing cameras.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ($249) contains both a front-facing and rear-facing (3MP rear).

You can probably find cheapo off-name Walgreens $99 tablets, but the cameras included on those are usually of VGA quality.

Why do you need cameras (on the rear anyways) on a tablet?

Facetime to show what you are seeing and a quick scanner for documents. But I understand Apple not including it to keep costs down and a reason to upgrade next time.

Apple cameras are tokenistic anyway

Having said that, I predict that Apple will eventually release a dedicated iCamera device, falling back on ease of use and walled-garden integration.

...

They will save the camera for second generation like they did with the original ipad. That helps them cut costs. It will probobly still have a cheap front camera for facetime but no rear camera. Why would you need a camera on the controller for the apple television anyway?

No way.

The Nexus 7 has a camera @ $199. AAPL would never do the mini without one. At worst, it would be a lower res camera than the iPad. But definitely not camera-less.

And here, just for reference:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105...s-more-to-make-but-apple-eats-the-difference/

According to that, both cameras combined
* for the iPad 2 cost AAPL roughly $4
* for the "New" iPad cost roughly $12.35

Again, there's absolutely no way they'd release an iPad mini without at least an iPad 2 level camera. Still, that new iPad $12.35 has got to be coming down since its release in March as the quantity they're selling ramps up. Adding it to an iPad mini would further work with their supply chain pricing. IMHO, it's likely to have the good camera... with the iPad "4" getting a better one again in March. ;-)

I'm hoping this iPad Mini is

A.) Massively affordable.
B.) Retina display.
C.) Relatively impressive internals for a cheap tablet of this size.

I assume it will have the same price point as the iPad did when it came out. That is hundreds over the competition. Therefore, I think the starting price will be no less than $400. You cannot have affordable, impressive internals, and retina. With Apple it seems next to impossible. Look at the Mac Mini.

I have had iPads 1, 2 and 3 and have never taken photos nor wished to take photos with ANY of them (front or back). No interest in it.

Of course, I can see that it is needed so I don't care that they're in there now.
