In the last two hours, I used a 3.5mm connector to connect my iPhone to my car AUX, my headphones to my iPhone, my headphones to an iMac and my headphones to my MBP. With Apple's brilliant move, all will be negatively impacted.

Do you know that last time I used a floppy in my mac, before apple removed it? About a year. Do you know the last time I used s CD/DVD in my MAc, before apple removed that? 2 months.

This move is not being asked for. And you Apple fanbois could already do whatever you are salivating over, with this idiotic upcoming move.

Screwing over customers to sell high priced adapters and proprietary peripherals - Apple, the new Sony!!!

Because there was no other solution. That's why you've used it so much. For every other peripheral on any device advancements have made most in time obsolete. That's what happens when we innovate. in what other category do we demand plugs or anything else stay the same except for maybe the wall plug?
Petty, ignorant and insipid are the voices decrying the change. Buy a two dollar adopter if it matters that much to you already.
You cannot and should not get in the way of technological advancements. It's evolution; those who can adopt and thrive in existing environment win. Those who don't, lose. Or there is stagnation which is just as bad.

Who knows? Apple's solution may may flop and things go back to normal. But a company has to at least try and innovate when it thinks it benefits them. Or else they go the way of Blackberry and others.

Instead of bitching about something so innocuous, applaud them for taking a chance.
If they fail you can laugh and say "I told you so"
If it's a better solution we all win.
Simple as that.

Real or not, I can't help but laugh at the tech blog echo chamber decrying the removal of the 3.5 jack. This tells you the level of intelligence driving tech blogs. ...They all know each other, get chummy at events and all think what they say matters.
Nilay Patel being the main doofus on this one.
And they can't even adequately explain their gripe. Especially when not even knowing what Apples solution is. It's all just based on conjeture right now.

They are building a pre-emtive click bait of "outrage"

"How dare they!!"

Truth is, as long as the new phone has a pair of earphones, no one is going to give a rats ass.

And if you are in the hyper minority of .01 percent of the population who owns a pair of $500 dollar headphones to listen to music on a smartphone, then you have other issues and the money for an adopter.
Most people will lose or break their EarPods and just go to the corner store and pay $15 bucks for a new pair without any of the manufactured angst of the click-bait morons who run tech blogs. (Nilay Patel)
The fact that people still give theverge and people like Nilay Patel some kind of credit baffles me.

If they just report the about products it's cool. When these nobody young writers post "opinion" pieces it's Gtfouhwtbs.
Walt is qualified, but what qualifies a lot of these other morons that work there? What makes their opinions worth posting? That their young and can write? What qualifications do these knuckleheads have other than the buddy system that they all know each other.
I could care less about any of their opinions unless you are of Walt Mossberg caliber depth, wit and charm.

Apple just looking for methods squeezing more money out of you:

This has never happened to any Lightning cable I have owned.

This is my fifth. I'm using it on my iPad while browsing. You can imagine what will happen when using that same cables as a headphone connector.

I'm having a hard time imagining it, considering I haven't jacked headphones into my phone in more than a year. It's getting a little fuzzy, so you may need to remind me what that's like.

Why leave it connected while web browsing? I've got 5+ Ln cables and still waiting for this to happen. Not saying it can't, but you must be doing something to cause them to fray.

there is only one lightening port, so either power or headphones. My gut feeling is they will be fine.
