I doubt they will call it something else. Its a phone. It's by Apple. It'll be an iphone. No way getting round that. Perhaps an iphone mega. An iphone max. But it WILL be an iphone.

If you can swing a job as a business analyst, apparently yes.

Yeah, the model seems to be:

1. Publish outrageous made-up rumor
2. Get thousands of clicks and generate angry discussion
3. Wait a month
4. Publish retraction of previous rumor
5. Get thousands of clicks and generate "I told you so" discussion
6. ?????
7. Profit!

It will be called the iNote with Stylus.

I sure hope it has a stylus with a built in holder.

While it is somewhat probable that Apple could release two versions of the iPhone as previously suggested by other reports, it is very unlikely that the company would drop the iPhone name for the larger phone given the iconic reputation of the brand.

So MR is telling us that Apple couldn't come up with a new name for a new product sandwiched between the iPhone and the iPad?

They must be talking about a different Apple than the one I know.

You're reading that very differently than I am.

I read it as Economic Daily News is telling us that Apple will (or maybe already has come up with a new name for the sandwich product.

Exactly as you suspect Apple might. ;)

But MR is calling this "very unlikely." That was the point of my comment.

I think what's very unlikely is that they will position this as any of their existing product categories: iPhone, iPad or iPod. They'll find a way to differentiating it from other phablets.

I think the editors' point was that it's unlikely that it's unlikely they wouldn't market a phone as an iPhone.

*head explodes*

;)

Put another way: Apple is unlikely to create a new brand for a device they position as a phone.

My conclusion/guess: They don't think of it as a phone. This is one of the new device categories Tim Cook keeps talking about. How, not a clue.

Huh? I think you're giving the article too much credit for subtlety, or something. In any case, my point is a portable product midway in size between an iPhone and an iPad mini, with telephonic functionality, could easily be rebranded. The articles says this is "highly unlikely." I am saying that it seems entirely likely that Apple would rebrand it.

How about iSlate?

Apple registered iSlate.com a couple years ago. I remember reading about that here.

Honestly it's this sort of BS that makes me wonder why I continue to read MR. I love reading 9 out of 10 articles here but this is just link bait at its finest.

MR stands for MacRumors ;)

MR was totally convinced that this was the name Apple would use for the iPad. It would've been an absolutely horrible choice then, and it would be equally bad today.

I don't think anyone has any problems with rumors, or they would not be reading here, obviously. What is discouraging is the apparent lack of thought going into separating the likely from the unlikely.

I would be greatly disappointed if the smaller phone didn't have a sapphire screen and the larger one did. Since when did "smaller" mean less premium?

It's not a bad idea, but not at 5.6". I could see Apple squeezing the 1% ers with an ultra high end $1,200 sapphire iPhone.

IPOD (TOUCH) REVIVAL with a WATCH PHONE

5.6 ipod touch replacement, maybe with cellular/data option, 2 gig ram and 32,64,128 and optional 256 line up with better camera hardware.

Still incline to think the 4.7 is more adequate to a phone profile

Who knows, maybe the apple watch is the one carrying the cellular antenna that is to tether the signal to the new line of devices this year, this maneuver would kill a lot of birds with one stone ... The true evolution of the iphone, from the pocket to the wrist to the display again but as an app not a device welcome the iwatch, now you can make a phone call with an ipad, ipad mini, ipod wide, ipod touch paired up with an iwatch

I'm rather annoyed by comments like yours. It is a rumor.

More like idle gossip, no? Completely unsubstantiated tat to encourage page clicks, hardly worthy of the front page, let alone page 2.

Mac rumours is really going the way Appleinsider has and TUAW before it. Filled with complete bs reports and fanciful articles like, iPhone 6, what we know so far, a page full of complete pish that could be replaced by one line. What we know so far-**** all!!

Trouble with sites like this is having no one to say 'NO' to an article.
