The M4 Air is EASILY the better buy over the Neo, though some will like the Neo regardless for whatever reason, obviously (eg. colour, tiny lower price, edu). A nearly-new used M4 Air will probably match the Neo prices too, making the Neo a tough sell outside of certain use cases – provided the buyer does their shopping-around maths correctly.

The 13" M4 MacBook Air might look like $200 off because it's $200 of the 2025 retail, but it's really $100 off when compared with the M5 MacBook Air, which comes with a 512GB SSD by default, so that M4 MacBook Air is really $100 off, which is still a $100 savings for a Mac that's good enough for anyone who won't want more than one external monitor and plans to upgrade w/in 5 years

If they are the same price or close yes. But i haven’t seen that yet. And the sale price here while good is still a lot more than a Neo is.

Also the M4 is basically what the Neo has when it comes to single core tasks. The kind of tasks that the Neo target audience mainly does.

Call me crazy , but I almost think even a refurbished M2 or M3 Air at 16Gb ram would be worth it long term over the new Neo.

Yes it's $300 off compared to previous MSRP but that price is no longer applicable since new models were announced. The 16GB/512GB configuration is only $100 less than just announced M5 MacBook Air in the same configuration. You can also get these model refurbished from Apple for $80 to $160 less than sale prices shown here.

It's not even just the RAM. Faster chip, faster graphics, thunderbolt ports, backlit keyboard, better speakers, better display, better camera, longer battery life, MagSafe charging, ...

Unless you get the student discount the Neo's pricing makes no sense at all.

This is the post we need right now.

13" M4 MBA sales are going to seriously muddy the Neo situation.

It's a way better machine if the price gets even close.
Unless I'm blind, the links show a $1200 Macbook Air spec on sale for $999. The Macbook Neo is $499 with education discount, not even close to the same price. For a lot of people DOUBLE the price is not doable.

Your math aint mathing, the difference is 400 bucks right now with the cheapest 'new' M4 air, a nearly new used M4 air is not going to be 400 dollars cheaper than that (100-200 dollar is more like the real number).

and then the question is if the M4 Air is still the better option at 2-300 dollar difference. And if you ask me for 200 I would say upgrade to a nearly-new used M4 Air, but 300 dollar difference is already pushing it unless you really need and have an actual use case for that extra performance.

Nearly-new MBA M3/M4's are available at roughly the same price. As has been said.
Most should buy one of those over these Neo, unless they have some major proclivity to the Neo for whatever reason, eg. colour.

My colleague bought an almost unused MBA13 M3 512GB two weeks ago for just £550 on Ebay. Hunt and wait, and ye shall find.

Don't be simple, find them yourself over the next couple of weeks when the affects of the new things being released hits the used marketplace properly.

EDIT: a couple of mins... £540 8-months old 15" MBA 256GB, w/ original box+charger. Lol, that was hard. 🙄

a refurb 15" M4 Air with 512GB storage is an additional $80 off at $1019 via the apple store.
I bought the 15-inch MacBook Air a few years ago and didn't realize the footprint is so much wider. Later I gave it to my friend who needed a Mac at that time. Something about the 15-inch is strange to me especially under the Air branding. For a 16-inch MacBook Pro, I expect it to be large with a bit of weight on it.
