When under-display Face ID is implemented, I guess you could say this will allow the Dynamic Island to be smaller, but "technically" the Dynamic Island isn't the black area you see reserved for the Face ID and front-facing cameras--the Dynamic Island just appears in that area when needed, and it can be any size, and located anywhere onscreen, not just where the cameras are located. So the Dynamic Island itself isn't going away.

Psssh, nobody who is anybody is talking about the iPhone 18. Everybody who is anybody is getting pumped for the ALL NEW iPhone Fold. This is the biggest advancement to the iPhone since the original iPhone. And Apple didn’t stop there. For the first time ever, Apple is proud to introduce a game-changing feature to the best-in-class iPhone Fold: under-screen Face ID, allowing for a beautiful all-screen experience. Apple can’t wait to see the incredible things customers are able to do. Apple thinks you’re gonna love it!

"half-assed" from what perspective? and for who?
Those of us who have older phones might find them very compelling, eg I have a 13PM and the rumors entice me to maybe upgrade to a 17PM, but I will make my decision after I know what it actually does.
And if someone will be a 19 in the future, the 20 might be "Half-assed" ...

an iPhone is a tool that needs to be replaced after it has served some useful time, that timeframe is different for a lot of people ...
From my perspective, and possibly from the perspective of those who don't have a 13 in 2025. The anniversary model is meant to be all screen, at least this is what I read here. The 17 is getting incremental upgrades, with an update to the camera bump which imho seems to be dictated by the desire to have a new design, rather than by necessity. The 18 is rumored to be doing away with the D.I. but only to give us the hole-punch design.

I didn't realize that this needed to be spelled out for someone who's a contributor here, but that is what I mean by half-assed.

Yeah but I don’t want a Fold. Flip possibly, Fold no.

There’s always gonna be that one lil dude who says “I’m skipping this year’s iPhone” and still has like an iPhone 6 or something
What's your point? Someone rocking an iphone 6 is an inferior "lil dude"? I personally respect people that don't need the latest and greatest to validate themselves.

If it's still working for them and does what they need it to do good on them.

A variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro models should provide users with greater control over depth of field, which refers to how sharp a subject appears in the foreground compared to the background. However, given that iPhones have smaller image sensors due to size constraints, it is unclear exactly how meaningful this improvement would be.
Maybe for longer shutter speeds in bright light for video? I don't see any advantage for photography (with these sensor sizes).

If the orange 17 pro looks ‚sick‘ enough i grab one. Regardless on what version i am. I dont care about new features so much these days. And i dont use cases or a protection for the display.
The last good looking iphone for me is the 11 pro in dark green, i use this phone from time to time because it looks and feels so nice.

If only I opted for 6s Plus instead of crappy 6s with poor battery I would have been that dude for sure.

Going strong with 11 Pro for 5 years already💪 What if that thing can push it to 2029?😃

48 mega pixels on a phone camera is crazy detailed. I wonder if the lens is capable of resolving the scene to that detail.
Minus the fact that during low light those 48mp turn into pumpkin 12mp, as well as true RAW photos are all 12mp too. I think 48mp are more computational than real and are here for digital crop and slight detail increase

Two years before the battery change is the sweet spot. If not maybe like wait from 5 to 7 years so the phone dies and you dont sell it. But more or less you will always loose like 300 euros per year
