Based on what I read here both the 17 aaand the 18 are going to be half-assed upgrades, which will both fade once the 20 year anniversary model is unveiled. Not sure how to go about this...

What would make a compelling upgrade for you? Be specific...

#perspective

From my perspective, and possible from the perspective of those who don't have a 13 in 2025. The anniversary model is meant to be all screen, at least this is what I read here. The 17 is getting incremental upgrades, with an update to the camera bump which imho seems to be dictated by the desire to have a new design, rather than by necessity. The 18 is rumored to be doing away with the D.I. but only to give us the whole-punch design.

I didn't realize that this needed to be spelled out for someone who's a contributor here, but that is what I mean by half-assed.
well "half assed" goes way beyond the usual bickering here ...

And I don't know why you feel compelled to bring up my user title, but rest assured, I won't respond to your posts going forward.

Goodness, I hope I didn't offend you or hurt your feelings in any other way. How dare I share my opinion in my own words! Noted, thank you.

In the smoke and mirrors department, the iPhone 16 Pro went to 8GB memory to run AI. AI never showed up. The iPhone 17 Pro may have 12GB of ram I think AI will not be ready. The iPhone 18 Pro is rumored to have 16GB of memory and now has the necessary memory for AI.

BS incremental upgrades to milk all the cash they can. If AI wants 16GB on the Macs it will propbably need the same on the other devices to work properly.

No more "early adopter" for me as I lack the faith that we will have honesty in the dog and pony shows. Apple likes the canned shows so they do not get audience feed back in real time (like loud boos).

well, screw that iPhone 17 line-up then ... 18 to the rescue!!!
wait, what about the 19?
Hmm, my 13PM calls for help :eek:
I have the 13PM & I’m definitely getting the 17PM as an upgrade. I’ll wait a few years after that. Perhaps my next iPhone after the 17PM will have an all screen display… 🙏🏼

I got my 13PM replaced under AC+ like 18 or so m months ago, battery is at 89% and I usually end the day around 50%, so from that perspective, it'll go for another year, and I still have AC+.
But, I'll wait til the announcement esp to see what the cameras are capable of and then make a decision.

The idea of "skipping" an iPhone iteration implies a constant cycle of buying and replacing perfectly good phones. There is no such thing as "skipping" an iPhone...you should only buy a new phone when your current one no longer meets your needs.

I do think the 18 will be the upgrade cycle for me. Assuming it actually launches with all this. Although, under screen Face ID would be the least important.

That's just Max Tech level of information.

"Why this year iPhone is a breakthrough and you HAVE TO upgrade. Apple changes everything again."

"Why you should AVOID this year's iPhone. Apple is dead, Tim ruined it."

Yup, I agree, that's what I'm reading off this, too. I think I'm going to try and hold out on the next two years to grab that 20 year anniversary model. My 15 Pro Max should be able to hold up until then...

If you’re not upgrading, how will you face going out in public knowing the person next to you in the cafe/bar/shop is just so far superior to you? Is shame not one of your emotions?

There will always be some improvement every year. Expecting to see minor camera improvements along with a new and faster chip for the 18 Pro. I would say the main thing to look out for next year is the foldable iPhone.

Yup, I'm thinking this too, however, knowing myself well — might be challenging with my 16PM :D
