So much to consider. I am a Flyers fan so the orange is calling me. Foldable rumored for next year. Then 2027 is the 20th year of iPhone. What to do??? I have to sleep on it because....mmmmm...orange

Yeah, I'm not interested after all.
  1. only 1% lighter than the 16e (165 vs. 167 grams)
  2. very pronounced camera wart
  3. camera bar isn't unibody
  4. glossy edge which I don't like
  5. eSIM-only in Europe as well
I'll stick with the 13 mini for a while longer. We'll see what the 17e will bring.
This is it ... this is what it's all about

iPhone 18 Mini
Apple Air 18 mini!
That’s the next “big” thing!!
You heard it here!

A 18 mini or an Air mini or enough small iPhone Flip - we’ll see next year, or when Timmy leave?

My 13 mini is up for the fight ❤️‍🔥

I hope we get a properly orange iphone, not a rusty metallic one. the regular 17 colors look much nicer (in photos at least) and they don't have that apple watch ultra industrial styling.

I think will stay with my 14plus. Would consider the new 17 that is a lot of phone for the price, but I am not that interested in AI and at Age 84 what the heck. Right?

I am skipping 18 Pro too. Can you please share more on 19 pro? Thank you!

While the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are still a year away, there are already a few rumors about the devices that offer an early look ahead.

If you are skipping the iPhone 17 Pro and want to know about what to expect from the iPhone 18 Pro models, we have recapped a few of the key rumors below.

Under-Screen Face ID

face-id.jpg

In April 2023, display industry analyst Ross Young shared a roadmap showing that iPhone 17 Pro models would feature under-display Face ID. In May 2024, however, Young said he heard this change had been delayed until 2026. If so, that means that under-screen Face ID could debut on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max next year.

As a result of the under-screen Face ID, Young believes that the iPhone 18 Pro models will have a smaller Dynamic Island.

In May 2025, The Information also reported that the iPhone 18 Pro models would likely be equipped with under-screen Face ID.

Variable Aperture

iPhone-17-Pro-Side-Profile.jpg

The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models will offer variable aperture, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

With variable aperture, users would be able to control the amount of light that passes through the camera's lens and reaches the sensor. The main cameras on all of the iPhone 14 Pro through iPhone 17 Pro models have a fixed aperture of ƒ/1.78, and the lens is always fully open and shooting with this widest aperture. With the iPhone 18 Pro models, users would be able to manually change the aperture, according to this rumor.

A variable aperture on iPhone 18 Pro models should provide users with greater control over depth of field, which refers to how sharp a subject appears in the foreground compared to the background. However, given that iPhones have smaller image sensors due to size constraints, it is unclear exactly how meaningful this improvement would be.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman incorrectly reported that the iPhone 17 Pro models would feature a "variable aperture system," a few days before Apple's event.

2nm A20 Pro Chip and Apple's C2 Modem

iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to have an A20 Pro chip fabricated with TSMC's latest 2nm process, which could deliver significant performance improvements, and Apple's power-efficient C2 modem for cellular connectivity.

Got burned upgrading to the 16 pro because of AI, so nope, not planning on anything until the 19 at least. Hopefully by then they'll have better colors than pumpkin spice.

Seriously though, for what I do, there's zero reason to upgrade the phone, especially with AI being completely MIA. Next time I'll wait for the software to actually ship before I consider a hardware upgrade. Had too much faith in Apple last go around and have real regrets about it.
Lots of people feel burned by the iPhone 16 Pro Max debacle surrounding Apple Intelligence.

In my case I bought a iPhone 16 Pro Max hoping it would run cooler as compared to my iPhone 15 Pro Max. No such luck each of these two fail to perform as well as my much older Pro Max models.

While I'm mildly interested in Apple Intelligence it’s not a deal breaker.

It's somewhat encouraging that Apple has addressed thermal management in the iPhone 17 Pro Max, however they've broken many people's trust.

It will be interesting to read long term reviews in the future to see if they've delivered on the promise of improved thermal management on iPhone 17 Pro Max. If so I will consider an iPhone 18 Pro Max upon its release to take advantage of the various improvements.

Most of the updates have already come to this years model. I am skipping the 18 pro max once again it has nothing much to offer.

I have the same phone. What is so compelling for you that you want to upgrade? Interested to know your use case to see if it intersects mine.
The reason I would upgrade from my 15 Pro is the new 48MP Telephoto camera- the reason I won’t is I can’t get it in black.

Right now I'm more likely to upgrade my Mac's as I still require more and more power, specifically on the GPU side. I'll take whatever improvements I can get. As for my iPhones, there is nothing my 14 Pro Max does that need improving on for my uses cases. Makes calls just fine. I cannot see myself ugrading my iPhone until this thing dies.Still looks amazing! These would all be collector's items they look so good if they weren't tanks that lasted forever and didn't sell millions and millions of them.

I'm pretty sure the super thin iPhone Air is foldable as well.
I too expect bend-gate to make a reappearance. I don't want razor-thin phones. I want a phone thick enough to toss a Touch ID power button on the side of it like the iPads have, preferably with a screen size similar to the iPhone SE minus the home button.

I will never get what I want. Here's to hoping this phone lasts a long time.

I've been rocking a 1st gen SE since it came out. I'm finally ready to upgrade. I'm torn between the lighter weight of the air vs the better camera system of the pro.
3rd Gen SE has 5G and WiFi 6 in the same size case and for a fraction of the price of the standard iPhones.... but bad news is, it's discontinued. Snag one if you can find one.

I’m all set up and ready to pre-order an iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB model in White/Silver. I’m approved for a 2-year Barclay’s Finance Plan. Just need to complete the pre-order at 1pm on Friday. My TechWoven case in Purple should be with me tomorrow.
