Are you comparing the linear VM channels to the internet streamed Sky Go? Then yes obviously the delays you describe are consistent with you would expect to receive.
No, I'm comparing all of Sky's offerings that aren't a traditional TV directly connected to a dish. So Sky Glass, the Sky apps, wireless multiroom boxes etc. All use outdated unicast protocols. This is a particularly bad because they're only selling Sky Glass to new customers while not informing them (staff don't even seem aware) of the very high 1-2 minute latency.

Compare that to VM TV Anywhere app which only adds a couple seconds (using multicast tech I believe)

I ditched the overpriced Sky service many many years ago, long before Sky Q. I switched to simple FreeSat setup and never missed anything Sky had to offer and saved myself a fortune. That is until F1 moved to Sky only, so a small subscription to NOW.tv for F1 only. Sky need to reduce their subscription to a quarter of what it is now before I'd even consider going back

Huh but there is already the Sky Q app for the Apple TV? The addition of the Sky Go app would mean that NON Sky Q customers would finally be able to use it on the Apple TV, otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense considering the Sky Q app already exists.

By the way, they only check the IP to make sure you are in the same household as the Sky box on paper. Been using it on the other side of Germany for over a year

Nope, just checked and in the U.K. their is no Sky Q app for the Apple TV, also they actually ditched the Sky Q app months ago if not a year or more and put it all into the Sky Go app.

Anyway...

Just tested the Sky Go app on my 2021 4K Apple TV and Sony 55" OLED 4K and the quality is utter garbage. Really is. I don't want a Sky box in my room so just sub to Now TV for stuff like Westworld when it's on, I just tested it between Now TV and Sky Go and the Now TV app is visibly better quality.

I use a VPN and the F1TV app to watch it, but I have to plug in my iPad to the TV to do so, it's pretty good quality though. Does the Now TV app give you love pause on the races on Apple TV?

And a multi screen subscription. Pretty much pointless

Sky will charge you for:

1080P HD
4K
Multi room,
All the channels,

And you do not own any of the Sky Q equipment, we've had it for ages, unfortunately, and I was interested in getting the new HLG UHD, turned out that the HLG HDR was only available on newer Sky Q boxes then we had yet to get one I would have to pay Sky £50! Now bear in mind we pay the exact same as someone who has the newer box and you do not own any of the equipment, you are renting it, I told them where to go..

If it was up to me we wouldn't have it in the house.

You need a Sky Q subscription @ £26 and the Sky Q Multiscreen add-on @ £15 extra, which takes the HD (@ £8 extra) subscription to a whopping £49. There is no use in checking the IP though, as our provider BT changes the IP address - even the location of the IP address - with every new connection.

Yeah it is the same here in Germany. We usually cancel just before the contract ends and they will offer us the "complete package" for about half the price. Been doing this since it was called "Premiere" which was like ages ago.

A lot of bad words for Sky but everything is perfect for me!
I joined in 2012 when they did an offer where you got F1 for free if you paid £12 more a month for HD.

10 years later I'm still on the same package and it all works perfectly on the old Sky+ box.

Glass is no use because you can't record anything, you have to rely on them uploading stuff on demand.
And Sky Q doesn't seem worth it until everything is UHD (I'm still on a 1080 HD TV).

Yup. We have been with Sky for 20+ years and cancelled for good a few months ago. A lot of content went to the streaming services anyway and you get 3-4 services for the same amount - with 4K, no location restriction, multiple users, all devices from Apple TV, Playstation to Roku. We never paid more than £18 - £20 (they kept adjusting the price every year) for Sky+ Signature HD (or whatever name) in the last few years by cancelling in time, then waited for special offer emails or letters to arrive. Never accepted their first offer.

Yeah no issues here for me

Prefer it to virgin even though my broadband is with virgin

I thought the app might have a similar interface to Sky Glass and the forthcoming standalone "puck". We've waited this long for the app and it's just a basic interface with low picture quality (according to others).

Multiscreen/room (known as 'whole home') is £10 a month on Sky Glass. I presume this charge would apply for Apple TV if you have Sky Glass.

The Sky Q box or Sky Glass TV needs to be the same network as the Apple TV device. It doesn't matter if your ISP changes the IP address regularly, as long as they appear on the same network when they check.

It still amazes me Sky doesn’t charge extra for colour; I think it’s only because it hasn’t occurred to them yet.

Moved house a few years ago and rang up to cancel the Sky subscription. I told them I didn’t want Sky at the new house, but they said I could have a dish installed free of charge at the new house in case I ever changed my mind, which I accepted.

Nine months of living in the new house and finally having got on top of the admin, I realised Sky had still been taking their direct debit every month. I rang them, and they said their records showed I had just transferred my account to a new address. Even when they acknowledged I hadn’t watched it for 9 months, they still refused to budge and refund me.

General question. I'm a Comcast subscriber here in the US (Comcast owns Sky). 4K content comes over IP through their boxes. If these apps like Xfinity Stream and Sky Go are all IP based, why can't they offer 4K streams through the apps?

Ask to speak with a manager, and demand they listen to the telephone recordings of your call, because they need that proof. Otherwise they must give you your money back. And also they need to prove you had Sky equipment installed and active and in use, all Sky boxes have to be connected to the internet or telephone line as they call back every now and then. If you have not had any Sky boxes plugged in for that time and not watched it then it will show on there systems your box never rang back.
Escalate your complaint and keep escalating it, another trick is to send by recoded post a letter of complaint to the executives office, send it to the CEO, they will pass you to the executive complaints team then who usually sort things out.

Good question, even more so as you only have Sky Go I think with multiroom, and you pay a flat fee for that now, I don’t think it’s priced per box anymore. But it’s probably to reduce costs. They can penny punch like no one.

Had sky , never again thx

Abysmal , over priced and very unreliable with terrible customer service , avoid

The boxes never worked properly either and all the recordings tied to the damn things so when they went kaput ( which was often ) you lost everything
Happy Sky Q customer here. Works just fine & pricing in line with others.

Sounds like you just had a doggy box as your "boxes never worked properly" comment is bollocks.

No live pause, but I’d never use that anyway. I like to keep as live as possible and catch up for all the bits I want to see again. What a season this is!!! Awsome

Been on the beta for 3 months or so, does everything I want it to do for the projector in my cinema. No complaints from me. Was the only thing I used to stream through the PS5, now can do everything through the AppleTV

Was using the beta with a SkyGo extra subscription. Worked ok, other than the app was a little slow.

Updated to the full release and now I need a multi-room, SkyGlass etc etc.

Shame, it was handy while it lasted. Back to watching on my iPad when in my bedroom it is then.
