You know what, iOS for the iPad jumped from 3.2 to 4.2, there was no 4.0 and 4.1. And why? Because 4.0 and 4.1 were only released for other platforms (devices).
Same applies here, Skype 3.x and 4.x had been released on Windows but not for the Mac.

this is a welcome change, honestly surprised though with msoft taking over. but this was probably in dev well before the purchase
wait does it cost money? i'll stick to my free version of skype, friends don't have HD camera's anyways.
They call it FaceTime HD for macs, so thats it really. What year model do you have? If its 2011 it'll be HD but not sure about the 2010 one.
I thought the sensors were all higher resolution, but through the API you could only get 640x480 video from them?
I really don't get the 5.+ versions. It hogs your screen, the contact list is not nearly as friendly, it doesn't run as smooth, etc.
I'll say ONE thing I like about the 5.+ version. With this version, Skype will try to re-establish a dropped video chat for you. With 2.8 you have to "hang up" your dropped video chat and then call the person back. Hopefully the other person isn't trying to call you at the same time. The new version essentially handles this for you, although not always quickly or successfully.
I've twice upgraded to the old version after giving the new version a try.
