No one has tried this out on the 320m yet? Kinda scared to shell out the cash if it wont run. . .

Hi all,

First time back into PC gaming in a bit but I thought Skyrim would be worth it.

Quick question. This is what I'm running

27" iMac i5 3.10GHZ
16GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB

Downloaded Skyrim from steam and then went to download the newer 11.10 drivers. When I installed them I looked in the Device Manager at the GPU and it changed the name to 6900M series and it says that the Driver Version is 8.9110.0 with the date of 10/25/11. Is that right?

It updated what I had for sure because the old driver was dated at back to the beginning of the year.

Imac I5/Skyrim

I have the 2011 I5/3.1 - 6970 - 16g ram too.

The iMacs have a mobile graphics card in them, basically means its a laptop video card, not a desktop pc card.

The drivers you just updated to are for the desktop graphics cards.

I would suggest downloading and installing the latest mobile drivers from AMD.

how are you guys getting the 11.1 drivers? i went to the amd website and tried to download the 11.1 drivers for my 6750m but it said my device is incompatible with the drivers or something. can someone give mea link to the working drivers? do i HAVE to remove my previous bootcamp drivers?

Standard Catalyst mobility drivers 11.11
11.11a hotfix here (haven't tried this one yet)
You don't HAVE to remove your old drivers, I never do unless I have any serious issues.
I've noticed a very slight boost going from 11.10 to .11 but nothing major (more impressive in Saints Row 3).

If anyone here is using the LAA (large address aware) hack that was broken in the last update, here is a new patch for that.
This patch can be a godsend if you experience crashing after extended play.

Yesterday's patch prevents people from editing the file header by attaching the .exe and the launcher to Steam for a verification check when you run.

The purpose of them doing this was to weed out players who are running an illegal copy of the game. Much of piracy has to do with manipulating the same files.

The side effect is that players who did purchase the game, are also affected because the game is now again limited to 2GB of RAM.

But there is a new work-around.

Here's what you need to do if you're on a 64 bit OS and have more than 2GB in your system.

1. Right Click Skyrim in Steam, select properties at the bottom.

2. Click the "Local Files" tab, and select "Verify game file integrity". (What this does is make sure you have a clean fresh set of files from Steam, completely up to date.

3. Now download this - http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013

4. Follow the instructions in the Readme inside of the folder you download. You will need to unzip the folder into the directory you have Skyrim in. That is usually:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim

Any zip program will do. I recommend 7-zip

5. Now you run Skyrim by clicking "Skyrim4GB". I recommend you create a short cut on your desktop for that. You'll find that you'll need to re-adjust your settings in the launcher when it comes up, as it will have been reset.

All this does is re-enable 4GB availability without triggering Steam's DRM protection.

Thanks to Hrodeth on the Steam forums.

I have it on my macbook pro 13 inch 2010 model with 320m and 2.66 c2d. The game runs very well in bootcamp with no hiccups on medium settings. I tried putting the textures to high, it was still playable but i kept it at medium for the extra fps. Its at native resolution btw and looks awesome :))

2011 Mac Mini 2.5 i5 6630m

Hello All,

I've been playing Skyrim on a 2011 i5 Mac Mini with the 6630m.

My mini has an OWC SSD 6g and 8gb of ram.

I get about 20-ish average in bootcamp with High Settings. Edit: Running Windows 7

Aliasing off: When on past 2x, there is a performance hit.
Filtering is off: That setting does take a hit but with Medium settings, it should be fine.
FFAA is on
Reflections: All on
Resolution: 1680 x 1050

I'm happy with it!

The shadows in the game look weird! I turned them on Low. I could see a difference between Low and High but not so much Low and Medium.

I'm sure if anyone owns a newer iMac or Mac Pro (waiting for new model to be released), your performance will be a lot higher.

320m--go for it!

Hey,
It will work ok. I posted on another thread what I'm getting with my 2010 Mac Mini...briefly,
2.4 GHz Core2Duo
5 Gig RAM
Nvidia 320m

I am running WinXP on a Bootcamp partition, so it only uses 3GB RAM. When I installed it, it defaulted to High settings...that was too choppy. I then put it onto Medium, and it played ok. Turning off Anti-Aliasing definitely improved performance, then turning it back on to just 2 samples improved the details, without giving much of a performance hit.

Oh, and everybody...you have to go into controls and turn off the XBOX controller default...I also found I had to increase the mouse sensitivity, for some reason the default is on LOW.

HTH!

Does the area of Riften feel buggy to you guys? the framerate drops big time, alot of glitches down in the Thieves Guild, mostly the wall dissapears in a specifik position  are of Whiterun and solitude runs fine though

^^It'll run brilliantly on that system. Stick in every HD mod you can find on the Skyrim Nexus and it will still run great.

Been playing Skyrim on PS3, lookin forward to playing it on the PC so I can mod it up with the best of em. Getting a new system in tomorrow and from the various threads and youtube vids seems like it will run fine. Kind of annoyed my Nostromo n52te isn't supported in Win 7, should be getting the updated/compatible Razer Nostromo in a couple days.

New system:

iMac 27" 3.4 GHz i7
16GB RAM
6970M 2GB VRAM
2TB HD
Razer DeathAdder 3500
Razer Nostromo
Windows 7 Ultimate via Boot Camp

Can't wait! I predict very little sleep tonight.

I actually had problems getting my n52te working on win 7 too but I did get it working after a lot of messing around. It worked great for the SW:TOR beta weekend.

I'm curious to hear your fix. Was gonna give my n52te to my brother; would be nice if he could use it in Win 7 too vs paying for the new one.

Anyone know if the Nostromo has any issues with Skyrim?

Does anybody know if my iMac will be able to run Skyrim? If so, what will the performance be like? vv My iMac specs are in my signature vv

Edit: My video card for my iMac is I believe an ATi Radeon HD 5670 with 512 MB of RAM

My guess would be medium/high at 1080 with 8xAF and 0xAA.

I know this is a stupid question but seeing as i don't have a PS3...or an Xbox, I wanted to see if I could play Skyrim even if on low setting on my Early 2008 Macbook pro with GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB ram. I can play Oblivion/Crysis 1 pretty well but I don't think that's a really big deal

I also looked at the UESP article but all I see is the GS version of my graphics card. I don't know if the GS is better than my GT or not. Anyone have the same MBP as me and given it a go?

From all this Skyrim hype, I bought Oblivion for a mere $10 and I'm loving that game. I'm still playing it. I probably put more than at least 60 hours into it if not more.

It will run, I know several people playing with a Macbook pro with 9600M GT, which is almost identical to the 8600M GT. It runs ok with low/mediumish settings.

Cool. Yeah I think I will just buy the CD now and if I don't like how it plays, I will just save it until I get a new laptop. I can't possibly buy a new one now when there's rumors of an ultra thin MBP! :)

I just upgraded to the new patch today and gameplay seems so much smoother with both mouse/kb and a gamepad.

Just made a bootcamp installation to TRY skyrim on my new entry level macbook pro. Wasnt expecting much, the cider port of it was a slideslow, but to my surprise-after downloading the FXAA post processing mod and FPS limiter, I can play on the recommended medium settings with a decent framerate (not sure how much, need to enable fps view, i suspect 25-30 fps, as i have the limiter set at 30), very playable.

I really didnt expect to be able to play this on an entry level with integrated intel graphics but it is definitely doable if you dont NEED super high framerates. Now I just need to stay away from console commands because I really cant help myself after struggling to get where I was at on my 360 version lol

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

From my experience, the x360 version stutters and freezes quite often. Might be my x360 is about 6 years old, but I doubt it. There are so many problems with that game. Random chickens floating in the air for example, and plenty of places to get stuck.
