here's most of it if that link won't work:

* Biometric fingerprint reader (May be part of the “unusual trackpad” or will be concealed in the aluminum chassis)
* SuperDrive

Specs are currently unknown but we’ll likely see 1GB RAM and 100GB Hard Drives in the lower model, and 2GB RAM and 160GB Hard Drives in the higher model. It is unlikely that we’ll see a dedicated graphics card in the MacBook, but an improved Intel GMA chip (such as the X3500) will be seen.

* New style backlit Apple keyboard
* Larger trackpad with “unusual” features
* Improved battery life
* Biometric fingerprint reader (May be part of the “unusual trackpad” or will be concealed in speakers)
* LED in 17 inch screens
* Core 2 Extreme Mobile (X7900) model with 2.8GHz
* NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GT (256mb on lower model 512mb option on higher)
* SuperDrive & Option for Blu-ray (Single layer)

I have a hard time believing anyone who admits he's bananas ;)

All sounding like educated guesses and/or wishful thinking to me. I'm certainly not arsed about a fingerprint reader - tried laptops with them built in at work, they suck royally.

Decent guesses otherwise, if a bit optimistic on the graphics cards.

I am surprised by the biometric reader, but hey, if they do it right and offer a password as well then thats fine by me.

Unusual trackpad...that looks like the only revolutionary update. If only they could afford to put an iPod touch like screen as the touch pad - but I am sure that too expensive for this year

A black aluminium macbook pro would be the sweetest portable machine!

Id like to see an ultra portable even tho i just got a mac book and that seems easy enough to carry around.

The 13" screen size seems to be the smallest workable space for having after effects, photoshop or final cut running. It would be a nightmare trying to do any sort of similar work on a 10".

A subnotebook would be a portable net machine, word processor, internet device and movie player. For which scratch the word processing, id get an iphone!

Personally, I felt that although the Macbook looked nice, it didn't look like its price. I have been holding out on a Macbook to switch my girlfriend because I couldn't justify spending all that money on something that looks like a toy. I am eagerly waiting for this new Macbook to be released.

Buyer's Guide Info

Sorry, if this has been posted already, but anywoo. I was just checking out the MR Buyer's Guide, and noticed a pattern of Previous MacBook Updates.

Since they've been released every year they've seen an update in the early spring (April, May) and in the Fall (October,November), seems to alternate months in the fall, and last year it was Nov. so maybe this year it will be Oct.

Not sure if this means anything, but I figured I post. Let the speculation Continue :D

I notice this "looks like a toy" argument is very common, but I cannot understand why.

Yes, it is white. White is not a particularly "serious" color, but it conveys fashion, energy, purity ... a blank slate to be worked with; creativity. I thought all of these were things Apple was about, which was why they went with white in the first place.

I don't like this new, serious Apple.

Then again, I'm not sure how I feel about Apple's new adventure in space either.

Q F T. I agree wholeheartedle.

I agree with the symbolism of white, and it really is/was a perfect fit for the iPod. But when I was recently sitting in a library with my MBP next to someone's MB, the contrast was drastic (as it should've been); the aluminum look suited a laptop. This is an over generalization, but I think most people would prefer a laptop that looks like the MBP than the MB.

Or it may just be my own personal bias since I see laptops more as serious centers of work. I am sad to see the playful white of the iPod turned gray.

As official "most mac/ipod white-loving human in the world 2007" - I agree 110% with that. This new design may make some purists head elsewhere... A toy? My arse does it look a toy. All I get is oohhhs and ahhhs from my macbook

EDIT - I ain't blaming anyone on the "A toy?!" rant - I just say it's quite an outrageous comment.

well this must be the macbook...not macbook pro...suuurely???

....firstly because of the product cycle....also because the macbook pro is expected january with these new intel processors coming out for it...macbook needs update more than the pro line because its the only plastic product left, needs major redesign, and since its aimed at students i hope the macbook has an optical drive...would also be suprised at it being "AGRESSIVELY PRICED"....i hope the aluminium slim macbooks are separate from these miniscule functionless sub-notebooks

I find it strange how the imacs and the ipods keep getting smaller and lighter but a small laptop has not been made yet. How come you can buy other laptops that weigh 1.7 pounds and my macbook is 5 pounds. I hope the next apple laptop update is at least under 3 pounds.

This is so NOT going to happen. Let's not get too excited, folks, or when the new models are announced, the forums will be full of ppl whining about how they are disappointed with the update.

that sounds like wishfull thinking to me too. I didn't actually claim any of those things were nothing more than rumors. I wasn't even the first person to post that. I just provided a coral cached link to the article.

the original forum discussion is here

All I'm expecting is something like this (which I already posted earlier):
the new aluminium macbook:

EDIT: here's the blackbook:

Q F T. I agree wholeheartedle.

I am glad you agree with me. :)

I've seen MBP and black MB in person. Of course, they are both beautiful machines. But there is something about the white that is so striking ... its stark contrast against everything around it, the glossy sheen.

What is strangest is that Apple is clearly not shunning white, with the new keyboard and making the MM even WHITER. It is this bland, ugly combination of silver and white that is terrible. Aluminum and white look great seperated, as a solid look. Combined, they look drab.

As official "most mac/ipod white-loving human in the world 2007" - I agree 110% with that. This new design may make some purists head elsewhere... A toy? My arse does it look a toy. All I get is oohhhs and ahhhs from my macbook

Same here. Everyone loves the white. It's very distinctive. Apple is going down a strange road, stylistically.

This is what makes the description sound like a wish-list rather than real info. The X7900 pumps out too much heat for the form-factor (and it's not as if MBPs don't already have difficulties with heat). The 2.6GHz T7800 is a possibility though.

As for a Blu-Ray option, that's not going to happen until a protected-content playback path is ready in Leopard. That depends on how willing Apple is to jump through the DRM hoops that the MPAA is demanding, and given the current climate, I have my doubts. Blu-Ray won't be a realistic option purely for backup until drives speed up and media prices comes down

Darn it!!! i just bought my white macbook two months ago!! Perhaps i should have kept my Aluminum powerbook G4 for a bit longer, since its design is longer-lasting than even this current macbook...

My Predictions...

Based on the rumours here's my description of how I think the look and feel of the new 'books will be...

1) the screen area will be very much like the new imacs - with a slight black bezel and glass making the screen and frame appear seamless and the bezel extremely slim.

2) Keyboard will be identical to the new BT Kb's - and now that ambient light sensors are can be found in the iPhone and iPod touch, we'll see that fantastic feature across the board in Apple's 'books not just the Pro line up...

3) The touch pad... multi-touch, and again - a seamless design. imagine the current MBP etc but where we have the trackpad / wrist area, we have a perfectly flat surface - the only feature being a glass/glossy multitouch trackpad...no 'hard' buttons.

Could be wrong... (more than likely!!!) but it's some of the simpler stuff I'd like to see... :)

And without dvd

Taken of MyMac

When Steve Jobs launch the new .Mac gallery, he already said dvd is goining to be a thing of the pass, and when he presented iLife ‘08 he made constant reference to the death of the DVD, and said that the integration of iMovie and .Mac meant, textually, “no more sending a DVD to Grandma”

This might be true. I'd be happy with a macbook without dvd. On the other hand it wouldn't be an all in one device anymore, since I would have to get a separate dvd-drive to plug in to it.

So SJ has said DVD is history and he has said that he loves all in one systems.

anyway, I want one! :)
