maybe it is a double whammy for ATT

Maybe ATT not only has to worries about their wireless side, but their wired side.

The wired side of the business is like all the cable companies. They are pushing as much as the can through the bandwidth (TV, phone, and Internet).

ah ha! Finally! Oh wait, it's wi-fi only. Nevermind, me no buy.

Count me out. Wifi only is a waste of money. This is what I was afraid of.

Hopefully it will work on a jailbroken phone with that hack. That is the only way I'll buy.

What a complete waste of time!

Why the heck would you need this over a wifi! If this is true, count me out!

The dumbest thing ive heard!

Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Time to switch carriers AT&T! I hope you read these threads!!

I'm starting a petition!

Please sign here....

And there is a $30 fee for the app that can only be used via wifi...thats pretty lame. Hopefully there will be a hulu app. Thanx to all of the gimping the iphone is not so "smart" after all...

Posted in the front page thread, but when you launch the app with out being on a wifi network it says "... only supports Wi-Fi at this time..."

hmm.

I see it. Tempted, but only if someone confirms it will work with the jailbreak hack over 3G.

Oh yea, it works!!! I have an AV model and streaming on 3G with the hack. Go for it. I wasn't going to buy unless the hack worked and it does.

I am amazed at how many people paid $30 for this app when it can't be used on the 3G network. I refuse!

took me 10 mine to jailbreak. Installed the new patch. Bam! Sling over 3g! Same quality as wifi and in a moving car on the freeway. I usually always jailbreak anyways. Best thing is now skype app now works over 3g too!

Here's where it doesn't add up...

I have an HP EX485 Media Server at home. There is an iPhone app that was just recently approved that allows me to stream my VIDOES, music, and picture over 3g from my home server.

So...why is this allowed and my slingbox isn't?

Please...PLEASE, Master of the iPhone, open up the Verizon network to us!!!

$29.99!!???

Is it just me or is Slingplayer Mobile for EVERY OTHER PHONE free? And ok if you want to start charging I can understand that. But seriously, from free to $29.99? That's nuts!

As was previously stated, Blackberry version = $29.99, Palm version = $29.99, Windows Mobile version = $29.99. Although the other versions have a 30 day trial: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/spm-purchase

*edit*
Someone else just posted the link. I'm too slow :p

Yeah, I was/am disappointed with this limitation.

My question to ATT is if they are "worried" about bandwidth over 3G, they shouldn't their heavily featured and promoted YOUTUBE also be a concern?

This is a royal turnoff with Apple/ATT.

I agree. Wifi only is crap.

If AT&T has such an issue with their network, they should make it better. I totally understand that they're in the business of making money, but what better way to attract hard-to-come-by consumer dollars than having a better product than the other guy.

Also, there isn't a critical mass of Sling users anyway. Sure it's cool and all of us use it. But we're not as many as most might think. AND, we won't all be on the network at the same time. PLUS, our crappy battery life is a built-in countdown (very short with video, I might add) to "off." All of these factors work TOWARDS AT&T's advantage. Why the big brother routine? Evil empire indeed.

It leaves me to wonder what else could possibly be the issue, other than a company's ego having to exert control...
