How was this resolved, if it ever was?

I found this through Googling.

I am in a similar situation. Picked up a 4th gen 12.9" iPad Pro and an Apple Smart Folio case this past Black Friday. Used the iPad for about 3 weeks, but it didn't serve my needs well. I returned the iPad Pro and the smart folio case on December 18, 2020. Till today, the refund still has not been posted to my credit card. That's 18 days now!

As the OP, I called my credit card co. Nobody was taking my call. Their phone recording says that I could open a dispute online by mailing or faxing certain documents to a certain address.

Also called Apple--twice actually. They told me that the refund had been initiated. It just takes time for the refund to go through. They also said that this would/could depend on my card co!?

Also went to the local Apple retail store. Was told the same thing: refund has been initiated; it just takes time for the refund to go through. They said this could go into January!

I bought the iPad Pro and the case online at apple.com, picked them up in a local Apple retail store. I then returned them to the same Apple store.

The total amount is $1096.82. Minus the $100 gift card they tossed in for shopping on Black Friday, the refund should be $996.82. I am going to enclose the receipt here, like the OP, as it doesn't really contain any super personal information.

Also, towards the bottom of the receipt, it says "online credit: $1096.82". Then immediately below it, it also says, "refunded to original tender: $1096.82."

Is my situation similar to the OP's?

Something additional:

I cancelled the Apple Care for the iPad Pro on the same day I returned the pad and the case to the Apple store--December 18, 2020, a Friday. The next Monday, the Apple Care refund was posted to my credit card. It was the same card that was used for purchasing the iPad Pro and the smart folio case.

Why is the refund for the Apple Care SO fast, but not the iPad Pro and case??

Not expecting a reply because this is a super old thread, but do you remember if this situation got resolved and you eventually received the refund?

I returned a macbook pro to the store today and received a receipt with the similar "online credit" followed by the "refunded to original tender"

Heres what happened to me..... but with a charger (lot less money so less stress) - The problem is with the return... its says online credit; that's the problem and that's what happened to me.

I purchased a watch/phone charging stand and a watch online. When I went to pick it up, I decided against the charging stand and only took the watch. So we initiated a return on the charging stand. It was a new employee and I immediately thought that was an issue when I saw Online Credit, but he assured me all was OK. I waited a few days and didn't see the credit.

I returned to the store and spoke with a manager and he started to tell me all was OK, but I mentioned that in all my years (I am old and have been in the store a lot) I've never seen that and can we look into it. Turns out, the return shows on their end but the money had not been "dispersed" - he had someone go back and count ALL the charging stands of this model and they realized they had 1 more than inventory showed so he agreed that I returned it and then issued a refund to any card I wanted (need to have any physical card to do this, does not have to be the original). He believed me as the original emlpoyee was there and agreed I returned the item, but I was OK with browsing while he counted inventory!

Try that and see how it goes
I figured there is a low chance you see this since it's is a really old thread but thought I'd ask in case you remember this issue from a few years ago:

When you had the problem with the return of the watch/phone charging stand, did the refund receipt only say "online credit"? Or was there also a line item below that which mentioned "Refunded to original tender"? i had a similar issue recently and have been doing some searching to try to determine what's going on.

Thank you!
