Hopefully the guy from MacProJournal.com is still reading.

Given that OSX can read NTFS, wouldn't it make more sense to skip the part where you download ImgBurn & carefully make the slipstream under PIO, and instead burn the ISO using Disk Utility?

Hey; Thats a interesting idea. I don't know if (Apples) Disk Utility supports burning bootable CD-ROM's. If people are having trouble burning from there Crippled SATA system, then yes, you might try that.

That said, the free cd burning tools do support lower-speed burns.

:) Terrabit!

I tried using it all i got was a black screen when i tried to boot up with it. There is a program for mac that will allow you to burn the disk its called NT Dragon burn. Its a free download trial, 10 uses!

I just did this; after using nLite to create the bootable ISO I restarted into OS X and used Toast 7 to burn and verify it. Worked great, now my hard drive is in Multi-World DMA Mode 2. Disk Utility /should/ work for burning the ISO, but I didn't try it.

I have done exactly what is listed above but when I reboot after uninstalling the drivers they automatically install the exact same one. Does anyone know how to turn off this feature so I can walk it through installing the drivers I want it to. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. Anybody?

OK, please excuse my ignorance on this. I have been out of the computer hardware game for a while. With my new mac pro (estimated delivery date Oct. 15th  ) I was planning on instally a 10,000 RPM raptor drive to load windows directly on to for gaming. Would I be subject to the same PIO issues with that type of HD? Your help is greatly apreciated.

Yes, with a Raptor you face the same issues. Terrabit's method in general works well and is not difficult.

I just did the Slipstream method and it work. Then I saw this method, can anyone confirm if the speed is better then the slipstream method or it is the same? Someone who tested both method out, please tell me.

My method will give you the exact same results as using the slipstream method, the methods are completely interchangeable the only reason i like my method is that if you fail the first time you don't have to redo the slip stream and reinstall taking up hours. All you have to do is spend 30 seconds doing the registry edits and restart the system. But the main reason someone would use this method is if you don't have access to a windows computer like i didn't.

oh and for the rest of you that have it automaticly install the drivers there has to be a setting, dig through the control panels. i'll look at it more when i reboot into xp mode.

just wanted to ask has anyone else had success with my method other than astropol and friendlycat?

Once this issues was fixed though I should be able to take advantage of a raptors speed thought.... correct??

can someone please answer me this ....

i am using the mac pro and got my hard dives to work perfectly using the customised xp cd with TERRABIT'S instructions ...

Do i need to bother with the new bootcamp release ???

has anyone tried it at all ?? i see on apple's site that it has a ton of bugs in it still.. some complaining that they cant see CMD and all sorts of other stuff..
i am wondering if this is becuase they didnt have a slipstreamed cd to do the xp instalation ...cause from the looks of this ..bootcamp 1.1.1 still has issues...

Hmm, I just noticed my HD and super drive are both multi-word DMA 2.

I'll ems with the registry thing to see if I can get them up to UDMA 4 later today. Raiding BWL now =P

the automatic installing of the drivers is the actual problem to this whole mess.
When I do the registry edits, uninstall the drivers and restart, windows with its awesome super understanding of users needs installs the drivers without giving me any control to choose.
Also I noticed when you do uninstall the drivers, the registry keys get deleted, so what use is actually there in making those changes?
Thanks

they are not actually deleting those changes because when the new ones are installed the altered keys become the default that it switches too instead of PIO only mode.

Not to hijack the current topic of this thread, but I am wondering if each and every user that has installed Windows on their macpro also has the same issues which I have (specifically, multiple device errors inside of the windows device manager).

Inside of device manager I have the following problems:

"PCI Device"
"Intel(R) 5000 Series Chipset PCI Express x4 Port 3 - 25E3"
"Intel(R) 5000 Series Chipset PCI Express x4 Port 5 - 25E5"
"Intel(R) 5000 Series Chipset PCI Express x4 Port 6 - 25E6"
"Intel(R) 5000 Series Chipset PCI Express x4 Port 7 - 25E7"

Please, guys, let me know if your device managers are clean or are just as nasty looking as mine!

Thanks!

yea mine still says that but nothings not working so i decided not to screw with it after the drivers people said to install didn't work

ok i looked it up and the closest thing i can find is under controlpanels/ accessibility options/general/give notifications when turning on a feature.
This is kinda retarted that microsoft won't tell anyone how to do it.

Help with Slipstream

I have an XPSP2 original CD. When I try and slipstream the drivers, the drivers work but XP is installed missing some files such as Outlook express and Windows explorer.

Any suggestions?

Mac Pro Restart/Shutdown issue

Ok... like most people I've been having a fair few issues with bootcamp on my Mac Pro but have managed to sort out some of them.

Using Terrabit's slipstream method I have my HD (SATA?) up and running in XP Pro 32bit SP2 at full speed. For some reason after doing this a lot of drivers aren't as happy as they were on the standarad install (mainly the keyboard), but anyway that's fairly minor.

The BIG BIG BIG issue is that when I go to restart or shutdown, the computer just instantly turns off (or instantly restarts)! Now this is seriously screwing windows up - I tried to do some windows updates and foolishly clicked on restart after them BANG! Windows update is screwed (having used PC's for a while I know how easily this can happen). I can't even use System Restore to roll this **** up back because you have to restart after that!

Oh... and before anyone points out that I must have messed up Terrabit's slipstream - I was experiencing this issue with XP Pro 32bit SP2 "standard install" anyway thank you very much!

Er... any ideas?

Yeah I have the same issue with those four notices under device manager, but on the upside :D My custom disk with the chipset drivers worked! I get 57mb/s which is way better than the acclaimed 3.7mb/s that some were getting :p So its all good. I haven't had any issues aside from having to install the realtek hd audio drivers separately to get my audio to work..oh and if anyone has an answer....for some reason i have to unplug and plug in my speakers when i load into windows for them to be reconized instead of that stupid little internal speaker!

Me too i'm blocked like the others by "the automatic drivers detection".
Is there someone going to explain exactly what to do, to force windows to use our drivers?

I have that annoying 4 device exclamation point problem too. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the much lower OGL performance I'm getting in Windows vs. OSX.

No more need for modifing XP CD, EFI firmware update solves all the matters with SATA drives. They appear as DMA 5, so now Win it is very very very fast on my MP 3,0. ;-)

Good to know, thanks.

Has anyone tried to install Vista RC1, I was getting the problem where it wouldn't install on any of my HDs

Wait, so there is no more problem with SATA performance due to the EFI update? No more need to slipstream the XP install cd?

Is there a link to the EFI firmware update? Does it just run like a regular program once I boot into windows? I couldnt find any information about where to get the EFI update, all the forums I research are back from April 6th, so I'm unsure of where to get this recent update?
