UPDATE: SM64EXLC is my easy to use GUI that can build a portable SM64EX.app on your Desktop without the needing to install Xcode, MacPorts or anything else!

Macintosh Garden Page -
Official WebPage -
My fork of SM64EX is on GitHub, read the build instructions to compile from source yourself. If you don't want to compile the source search 'sm64 ppc' or 'sm64 mac' on archive.org to find Leopard releases (including an Intel Leopard version by @thedoctor45x).

If you use the port, post some screenshots to this thread!

Can you plz explain - WHAT'S THIS???
So just recently, some very smart people figured out how to take the SM64 ROM file, disassemble it to MIPS assembly language, and then write matching c code.

What this means basically is the SM64 source code is now publicly available, and you can build/play the game on Windows, Linux, etc. without an emulator. It is just like any other computer game. There is no emulation happening when playing a native port.

I've just made this actually build and run on PowerPC Mac OS X :)

Hi alex_free,
thanks for posting this, I wasn't aware that something like that exists. I'd love to give it a try :) Do you mind sharing a pre-compiled .dmg image or would that infringe on copyright?

Best regards

Why not upload to the Internet Archive?
Definitely doing this now, but I need someone to verify it works without MacPorts. I'm currently compiling some things and can't easily check.

@alex_free I don't have MacPorts installed; I can do that for you on Tiger.
Unfortunately it has to be Leopard ATM, I have to recompile GCC 4.9 and other dependencies on Tiger which no exaggeration will take days (I will do it though). Do you have Leopard?

@alex_free Not on any available machines.

I have been meaning to install it on a second partition for development purposes though, so maybe I can get something running pretty soon.

Better yet, create a torrent. This is bound to be DMCA'd sooner rather than later.
At archive.org, you can now search for 'sm64 powerpc mac os x' @z970mp

A torrent would be nice, maybe soon, although isn't there automatically a torrent generated by archive.org?

Yeah, I think you're right about that. My concern is that it would get DMCA'd, and archive.org would no longer be able to host the torrent file.

Was going to wait until I had a working PPC Leopard-capable Mac again, but I got curious and decided to try this game out on Intel Leopard. It works great on my 2006 MBP!

Assuming it's not a lot of work, it would be interesting if this could also be compiled for Intel Leopard. The other releases I've seen require a moderately recent version of macOS.
