Dude.
Get AppleCare +. Enjoy and use the hell out of the phone.
You’ll spend less time obsessing over things like a scratch.

I took my phone Scuba Diving at about 35 feet for 30 minutes. It sucked when I came back to the surface because it was dead, but....I got a replacement that looks brand new with a 100% capacity battery.

Trust me. It’s liberating to just enjoy these pocket devices.
Would love to get Apple Care + if I had the money to shell out for it.

If it bothers you then replace it. If not then enjoy it as others have suggested. :)

I get where you are coming from though. These phones start at $1000. A substantial portion of that price goes toward quality manufacture and handling. I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation that it be flawless right out of the box and I'm sure that's Apple's intention seeing as how they put another substantial portion of that price into designing the box itself.

I'm with iGeneo. You get to weather that thing. 😜

Thanks lol, yeah I don’t want to seem entitled or anything like that. I simply paid a lot of money for this phone and I expect the phone’s quality to be perfect. I plan to have this phone for 2-3 years and (like you and IGeneo mentioned) weather it out myself. I do understand that mistakes happen during the manufacturing processes or even in store with new employees so I’m not really that mad about it, but just annoyed with how it turned out.

$10 or $15 a month.

Spend an extra night in at home.

Much more worth your peace of mind than having a good time....big picture stuff, you know?

Also...you said you were planning on having this phone for a couple of years. If that’s the case, AC+, to me, is an absolute necessity. I’m not sure, but I don’t recall Apple dropping out of warranty replacement costs by much if at all in the first two years of each phone's launch since I’ve always dealt with AC+.

My cost to replace my scuba diving incident was $99. Without AC+...$599.

I’ve got a similar issue.. a small scratch near the top left corner just above the antenna break on the steel band. But I didn’t have anyone install a screen protector, so I’d have to say it’s a manufacturing gaffe. This isn’t the first time an iphones been scratched out of the box for me either.. I’m in the same boat as you, trying to get over it but at times finding it a bit difficult. Let me know what you ended up doing and what your experience was like cus I honestly feel a little awkward asking to swap out the phone over such a tiny scratch but I’m also bothered by the scratch can’t seem to let it go lol.

I've noticed couple of this similar issues on the previous models. Looks nice but then under certain lighting and angle, bam, you see some scratches on stainless steel (expecially for those that have the PVD coating).

Does your car have any small dings and/or scratches? Did you take it back to the dealer?
If I had a ding on my car after I purchased it, I would most certainly take it back. iPhones have a return policy, whereas the dealer may tell you to go jump in a lake.

Same on my pro max but I live with it with a case it Doesn’t bug what bugs me more the scratch on my mom XR I caused while cleaning her a screen for a new glass cover.

My thinking is that if you put it in a case you’ll never see the scratch. On the other hand, if you don’t use a case the stainless will be scratched in short order anyway. It’s your decision, but personally I’d feel uncomfortable returning a phone for something so inconsequential.

So what’s the update? Did you get it returned?
