Do any of you use those leather sprays to protect the smart cover leather from stains, water damage, etc.? How does that work? Also, anyone use the leather cleaners to remove dirt that accumulated on their covers?

I wouldn't try them. I had a leather smart cover and there was some dirt on the leather. I used a damp cloth to wipe it off - and the leather blackness came right off, like it was paint!

I like the concept of the smart cover, but they are shockingly cheap and overpriced IMO, especially the "leather" one.

Well my mom just gave me her ipad 2 that she used a smart cover on (she had it for about a year, she ordered it online soon as it was offered last year). I don't know what kind of usage but I have a feeling it just stayed on and never came off. There are two spots of either discoloration or aluminum wearing off where the hinges hit the ipad. Doesn't bug me too much honestly. I probably would have taken a lot longer to notice except I read on here and I checked ;).

This is why I prefer a crystal clear screen protector + iCarbon + sleeve over a smart cover + case. The Smart Cover flops all over the place and constant taking off/attaching introduces more chances for scratches and marks and other damage. Plus it offers zero drop protection. Smart cover=fail.

Hi.

I heard a few months ago that smart covers damage the side of the iPad, as in wear off some aluminium.

Has anyone been using one over a long term period so i can get some info and their story?

I'd love to use a smart cover + screen protector, but i'm a bit hesitant. Google search is giving me very mixed results. Anyone help?

After a year of use with a Smart Cover I was able to sell my iPad 2 in mint condition.
