The Real Mighty Mouse

$10 for a beast that actually works. Money well spent.

Some of you are responding with these meticulous 'proven' cleaning methods. That is the fatal flaw; when I purchase a mouse it NEVER needs attention and only needs to be replaced when something newer/better arrives.

The real MM

Works very well with Leopard and beats a MM hands down imo.

As I said in my previous posts, I am fed up with the Mighty Mouse scroll ball getting stuck. This is what happened to the poor defenseless guy.

That should teach you to get stuck!
Hahaha! :D

This is so funny! I was pondering about the insides of the MightyMouse yesterday, and I was hoping that someone would dissect it… not the way I was expecting it, but thanks! :D

No problem. Now if my Macbook Pro doesn't quit dropping the wireless signal, we may have a Smash my Macbook Pro thread.

I bought a wireless MM, found it too heavy loaded with the batteries as well as less accurate than my previous Dell wired mouse, so after 2 weeks I've gone back to the old one.

I'll second that BIG TIME... hey, I don't want to be a stickler, but what's the deal with a $3000 computer that comes with a mouse that I have to clean twice a week. As some of you may know from my posts, I've owned a lot of Macs over the years with next to no problems... but... with all due respect to Apple, this is the most money I've spent on a computer in quite some years so, why in the f%^n' heck does my P.O.S. MICROSOFT mouse put the mighty mouse to SHAME!!!??? Maybe the above P.O.S. reference should now mean Piece Of Sweetness. I just think that considering all the engineering genius that goes into developing the Macs, perhaps the mouse design portfolio should be taken away from that 8 year old kid that seems to have been on the job lately.;)

MM sucks plain and simple. I cracked mine open for cleaning and didn't bother to use it anymore after a couple of times more. Seriously this product is flawed.

If I have a choice to take the MM out when buying a mac, I would.

dudes - if you phone apple they will tell you to turn the mouse upsidedown and rub the mouse (scrollball) upa nd down on a piece of plain paper.

Works everytime with my mouse - until I heard this I was close to smahsing mine like 36745736 times.

That will work ONLY to a certain point, as this method will only get rid of some of the filth, and will work fine only for awhile before you have to do it again. I know because I cracked open one after doing what you said and was stunned to find ALOT MORE goo.

One problem with rolling the scrollball upside down is if you press it down too firmly, the scrollball may get damaged and get stucked down, and will not pop back up. Once damaged, there's no way to repair it except a replacement.

That was the reason why I had to crack open my MM because I pressed the scrollball too firmly and it got stuck in the hole. If you DON'T press it firm enough, you can't remove enough goo. See the problem with it?

The MM is the worst mouse I have ever used... I'm sure you get used to it after a while but it amazes me that anyone actually prefers it.

1. Every time I try to right click it opens the Dashboard...
Maybe that's just my club fingers, though.:D

2. That little ball is uncomfortable and harder to use than a wheel.

3. I haven't tried it, but can you use both mouse buttons at once? That's necessary for running/flying in WoW...

Luckily other companies make excellent mouses that work in the Master OS.

I might be in the minority here but I quite like the MM

I have tried other mice with a scroll wheel. I find I have finer control with the MM and I like how you can scroll side to side which is great for InDesign and Illustrator documents. I have two MM and I now make sure I keep my hands clean. I have managed to use the alcohol and scroll upside down cleaning trick. Sometime I open the MM for a thorough cleaning (see link above) and so far so good.

That being said Apple should do something with the design (enable the MM to be opened for cleaning) to address this issue: you can't ignore the chorus as the saying goes.

Love/hate for the MM.

I love the clicking feel of the 'left' click.

The scroll ball is great, but the scroll ball not working every week or two is annoying as all hell.

The side button also is too hard to press at least until the last few months when it decided to activate at the slightest touch and do so rapidly. I had to turn that button off.

My conclusion on the right click is that it's just annoying enough for me to turn it off and use the CTRL key. When I say annoying enough I mean every 10 or so right clicks I find it doesn't work probably because I was barely touching the left side. And sometimes my fingers would shift over and I would right click instead of left click. It happens just enough to be annoying.

Hmm... For some reason I have had a perfect wireless connection over the last 2 days since smashing my Mighty Mouse. I think there may be a connection between the MBP wireless drops and bluetooth interference. Just an observation.
