I would think if wasn't an isolated incident we would have heard about others
We haven't
Have you?
If so, do tell
I doubt that most people affected by defective units make it public or even have the followers to get noticed. For all we know there could’ve been a hundred silent cases.

Point being, you shouldn’t state something as fact that you doesn’t know. It seems apologetic.

Thank goodness its not the 2016 or later models, that would be a nail in the coffin.

Anyway, irony of Intel inside and the following comes back in a nostalgic way.

This reminds me of the Gas powered auto industry that's in desperation. So when a one Telsa catches fire, It's all over the news but when 171.500 Gas powered cars burn. Only a few are covered. Quote: 2014 to 2016, an estimated 171,500 highway vehicle fires occurred in the United States,

You shouldn’t cherry pick numbers from a study to try and make a point.

I have a 2013 rMBP and the battery has swelled to the point where the case will not shut. I am more than a little concerned now that I have a fire hazard on my hands.
And you’ve been okay with that until now??

I doubt that.
Pretend it says, “The reality is that Apple produces millions of devices with lithium-ion batteries.”

I have the same model and the battery swelled up on mine as well, nearly damaging the trackpad. Apple quoted me about half the price of a new computer, so I had no choice but to go to a 3rd party repair shop, which was also a huge hassle but at least cost a fraction of the price, and now it's been working great since.

The length to which Apple goes to force you to pay for an entire top case replacement just to make more money is insane. They could very well use screws and make the process super simple, so all you'd have to pay for is the battery, not half the computer.

Guess Apple fans can’t make fun of Samsung anymore

Nah,, we still will :) and *holly smokes*...

I think there needs to be much more educating of consumers done regarding lithium ion batteries, but the industry is reluctant to do so as they don't want people to be afraid of the batteries either. Lithium batteries can be very dangerous when they fail and the safety measures built into them need to be religiously adhered to.

Meaning, if your battery is swelling you need to get it replaced ASAP. As the battery has contained a failure condition as it was designed to do. But it can't contain the failure condition forever. Repeated charging and use will increase the risk of a catastrophic failure. My guess, this battery was swelled and the consumer ignored it.

I doubt think education is the key,, because its not just smart phones, or computers that use lithium..

We understand the concept well enough in other areas. There is nothing more special that needs to be done if its in a computer, than say aremote car locks and thermometers.
