Is there anyway of turning this off? Its usuful sometimes, but not in the morning when trying to sleep and someone texts you.

cant seem to find an option to turn it off anywhere

does it alert you if you put your iphone on silent? Maybe this is an option...

yeah could do i guess - i like the noise though, its a special moment:D

its not a massive deal really, just wondered if there was an option to turn it off, id probably do it - but not a biggy

If that's your only reason, don't worry: the alarm works even on silent. It's the only sound that won't be silenced. :)
It's nice when you want your alarm to go off in the morning. It sucks when you think you have your phone on vibrate in an important meeting or at the movies, and an alarm you forgot about goes off  Good thing if you jailbreak you can fix this (if it bothers you).

Why don't you just silence the ringer?

Geez, some of you just don’t think things through.

Example of why there should be an option to turn of SMS repeat notifications:

You talk to your family in the morning and in passing advise them that if “such and such” happens, to call you immediately.

Now, you leave and later in the day take a nap. A friend or two send you a “what up dude?” text message. Your phone alerts you ONCE and that’s it. Even though you hear the text message notification in your sleep, you know it’s not your family reaching you because you told them to CALL you….you know that a simple text alert is not reason enough to get out of bed for….and you fall back asleep. With the new “apple’s way or the highway” approach….you get TWO MORE annoying text alerts that you already dismissed the first time.

Later, your phone RINGS and you wake up because you are sort of expecting an urgent call and sure enough, it’s your family calling you to tell you that important message.

Now, if you would have silenced your phone, you would have turned off the text alerts AND the ringer……so you screwed yourself.

I agree that this feature is stupid w/out an option to disable it.

But you didn't dismiss it. What's the phone supposed to do? Read your mind?

Man ... this is just no pleasing some people.

again, you're NOT THINKING.

if i'm asleep and the phone is on the desk across the room and it beeps for a text message.....why would i want to wake up 100%, walk across the room to dismiss it???

it should beep just once in an option setting. end of discussion.

There really isn't.

It's funny just how fickle and anal most people are now that they've been introduced to Apple products. They offer some of the best UI's out there in their simplicity and elegance and people still complain over the most trivial things.

It makes you wonder how these people go about their lives if things like this annoy them to the point of damning the company so quickly.

you please the people by giving them the ability to choose option A or B.....not forcing A on them and in a new update, say "you can't use A anymore, you HAVE TO USE option B NOW!"

End of discussion? YES SIR!

If you're sleeping, how are 2 extra tones gonna kill ya? You want it to ring, but not beep twice when you ignore/forget a message. The iPhone sucks. Give me a break.

It just sounds like you want a really highly customizable WinMo phone, which a million options and switches to flip.

I still haven't encountered the second alert yet. When does it activate? And is it simply just the same SMS alert as in your preferences?

Yeah, if you don't check the message it just rings again like you just got it after a few minutes. Up to twice, if I'm not mistaken.

And then you'll find something else to complain about. C'est la vie.
