I agree that this is not a funny prank. A funny prank is one that is harmless and can't result in permanent damage (perhaps the victim is shooken up a bit, but it's nothing they won't get over). While no one got hurt in this incident they very well could have. I'd be furious if I'd been in that theater. It's not a matter of whether or not I'm afraid of snakes (I'm not really), but rather the kind of danger I could have been in. Whoever did it knew very well that someone could have been seriously hurt, and if they didn't know that then they're idiots. It's malicious. If they'd been something like a harmless garter snake then I might think differently.

I agree that it's just a step waaay to far. Grass snakes would have been funny, they are more scared of you than you are of them. About the biggest thing they can kill is a frog (we have them in our garden).

Rattlesnakes?!?!?! What was that guy/gal thinking?!?!? That's one seriously twisted person...

thought I'd throw this out, heard this first tuesday night.

'Snakes in a theater' a hoax

Police say reports that rattlesnakes were let loose during a showing of Snakes on a Plane at a north Phoenix theater have taken moviegoers for a ride.

There is some shred of truth to the story, Phoenix police Sgt. Joel Tranter said. A 10-inch-long rattlesnake was found Friday in a hallway at AMC Desert Ridge 18, near Tatum Boulevard and Loop 101. But it likely slithered inside on its own, Tranter said.

A security guard swept the snake outside and held it in a container until a member of the Arizona Herpetological Association could take it away. Snake handlers had been called earlier in the day to retrieve a rattler from outside the theater.

An AMC spokeswoman told the news organization Reuters that the rumors were true, but Tranter has been refuting the story to news outlets from across the U.S.

Eek. It would be slightly funny with harmless snakes. Rattlesnakes? Let's keep those out of theaters and planes. :)
