Everyone around "is working" on AR ...
When it will be something that actually "is working"?

So... everyone hated Google Glass because of privacy issues but now we're all ok with it...?
No, you got a totally wrong impression. The same set of people hate both Google Glass and Snap Spectacles. The real problem killed Google Glass was its high price point. With the average unit price increase of smartphones going up over the last 5-7 years, $1500 a pair may sounds not that expensive now, but at 2013, it sounds extremely expensive to most people.

I had a pair and I thought they were really cool for the time. Back in 2013 it wasn’t as socially acceptable to have a camera out all of the time. This has now changed however with body cams, apps like Snapchat and tiktok where people record every moment. I remember people would look at me weird, both because of this weird thing on my head but also because they assumed it had a camera on them.

I only had two encounters where somebody got annoyed at me wearing it, and one was in Harrods in London the security asked me to take them off because they didn’t like body worn camera, which I found funny because the person next to me was taking a photo on their phone of a gold Xbox and apparently that was fine (I wasn’t even taking photos).

no this hasn't changed.

As someone who wears glasses every day, I will say every single pair of these AR/smart glasses I've seen from any manufacturer has looked both hideous and impractical.

That will probably change eventually, but I predict it's gonna take a long, long time (at least in technology terms).

Personally, I'm really interested in this space. I cannot wait to purchase AR glasses...just keep imagining a HUD like the original Halo, LOL! Although, I don't think they should include a camera, way too susss for obvious reasons.
Any kind of AR glasses would have to have a camera. There can be no AR without the glasses being able to see their surroundings, therefore a camera is a necessity.

The worst thing about AR glasses is seeing the cameras. I don't, and I assume most people, do not like to be secretly filmed. It can quickly spread all over social media. Cameras on glasses should also show surrounding people the recording feature is on.
The second generation had a really nice way of noting that with a thin ring of LEDs that light up when it was used for a photo and went around in a circle when it was recording video. I do not think any of the three versions auto-upload to SnapChat, just to the user’s phone.

I’m not ok with it. But I’m betting there isn’t much uproar because it’s Apple and not spyware central
Sorry, these are not made by Apple. The reason people have not complained about the first 3 versions of Snap Spectacles is that, unlike Google Glass, these do not have a display and cannot be activated without a very specific notification that recording is happening.

Yes! Exactly. I never had Snapchat (nor tiktok and Co), I would never see myself putting cat eyes and dog ears for all the world to see... but here they come with something where others will potentially put those cat eyes and dog ears on me and share to the world? Cool, awesome Snap, please do tell me more.

Also, how is this different from someone pointing their camera directly to people’s faces and sharing it to the world? That thing has to emit some loud noise and bright blinking lights every time it’s recording.

That is a fact.
And that is the reason why the AR glasses will be controversial.
Is it acceptable that the person who wears these can constantly secretly be recoding everything he / she sees? Or will there be a annoying blue/red light glowing to show others that recording is active.. (which inevitable will be made inactive one way or another).
Great fun for YouTube live broadcasts, though <insert scenario here> 😂

If it can be made impossible for these AR glasses to be able to record (truly impossible that is...), it could work. Although I am sure many will stay sceptic.
There still will be a camera pointing at you without the owner making any sort of physically effort showing you that he/she is actually recording, like you do with a smartphone.

Spectacles is a cool concept and thing. If i was the targeting group i would like them. I think the problem is with image quality - the handy has an array of cameras the user is used to have.

i think the problem of the spectacles was that you cant see the final image you will get! With augmented that point could be solved!

They all look like…
