The parents have to be more responsible with their kids. I don't believe that a 12 year old kid should have any access to any social media sites. You want someone to blame look in the mirror and you will be looking at it..

The boy in the article is 14 years old and using a social media app that rates its services as suitable for ages 13 and up. Having said that, I think the mother failed to do her due diligence and familiarize herself with the service before turning her son loose on it. And I don't think there will be very many, if any social media sites I will let my kid on until 16, when I will carefully shepherd her navigation of such things.

Edited out TL/DR

Now, will we apply the same kind of concerns when it is about images of death and mayhem? Probably not, violence apparently is OK for all ages, but beware of a nipple-slip or slightly too much skin - it could be too 'harmful' for the young ones

I feel for the boy - was probably enjoying himself and got caught bij 'mom' - the horror

English has way too many words with way too many meanings.

I do not deny that there are many words with multiple meanings.

But, there are many synonyms of these multi meaning words with much more specific meanings.

I think that even though it is possible to do so we choose to use this language without precision.

Perhaps precision isn't necessitated by English which is what leads it to being used lazily and therefor in confusing ways...

This is an all too astute observation that I always seem to forget when these prudish issues arise.

Complaining about those small things but having the biggest porn industry in the world is okay.
Those Americans are a contradiction in itself.

America is the most hypocritical and twisted country in the world when it comes to sex. In Europe (not England, they are still stuck in the Victorian age too) sex is not only taught, but it is taught correctly and at a young age. Kids are taught that we are sexual beings and that sex is not only healthy but a good thing. And it is taught to kids right before their hormones kick in so they are prepared and don't feel bad about their bodies and desires. This puritan BS while using sex to sell everything and producing mega porn is laughable. Nature decides when people start being sexual, not arbitrary rules and laws made by old white men who pretend to look down at sex and then go home and break out the porn. Please...:p

14 year old boy you say?

I'm guessing this is the new version of "Those popups just come out of NOWHERE! I wasn't LOOKING at them!"

Human sexuality is like a river that starts flowing when we turn 11-13. You can try to dam it ;) but it will always find a way. Perhaps the problem is not nudity or sex, but our immaturity to accept that we are sexual beings and embrace it in a healthy way.

That is a very American discussion, to put it mildly. In Europe this thing wouldn't even raise an eye brow - we would be more concerned about kids having access to guns, which is something most Americans find absolutely acceptable. In the US, violence on TV or in the movies is also not a big issue. Apparently it's okay when kids can watch horror movies and as long as there is no nudity or sex involved. Which is quite sick.

In more recent news, the Californian mother is looking to sue every company that has anything to do with the internet or electronic devices, for consipiring to enable her 14 year old sons interest in the evil nightmare of human physiology and sexuality. All US internet services will now be required to hire 300 million employees, to monitor every image that could get posted to any of the 300 million citizens devices.

Hey, maybe if you close your eyes and click your heels together you can keep your kids ignorant and confused and repressed forever. There certainly aren't any disasterous effects that'll ruin their relationships and their own families lives later, which they'll spend a fortune on in therapy trying to fix for the rest of their adult lives. Unhealthy lunatics.

American values:
Good: aggression, violence, killing, gore and war
Evil: beauty, sex and knowledge
Result: the present

Bloody miserable puritans.

You can see these mothers against the world in the local Starbucks ordering their "Caramel Macchiato, Venti, Non-fat, Soy, Decaf, Extra Shot, Extra-Hot, Extra-Whip, Sugar-Free,3 pumps, 2% foam while hashtaging "starbuckshacks" on their oversized rose gold iPhones wearing hard core exercise gear (including tight leggings) just to go to the mall. She pays with her gold Apple Watch. Once they leave she tucks little Eggbert in the $5,000 car seat of the white Mercedes SUV that they paid full price for. When they get home she will fill out a survey about how the drink they got wasn't the right temperature and had ONLY 1.6% foam (when the drink has 0 foam). The family enjoys their little world....but don't realize it is not reality. Hubby might one day get laid off and loose high paying job that affords her this luxury. She will then divorce him and take half his stuff and get awarded $100,000 of money he doesn't have every year to help her "make ends meet". He gets stuck with the $200,000 in credit card debt. She will find a new lover and they will live off his checks until he is jailed for non-payment. And the next day, she walks into starbucks and the process repeats. The American dream realized.

Just sayin.....
