Has anyone else who has this case had the same issuer as Archer? I'm debating whether I should cancel my order and go with the regular case instead.

Does anyone know of any other iPad 3 cases that with a magnet on the back besides this one?

Speck is coming out with one. I'm thinking about canceling my SS Secure also.

I didn't say there was exposed metal. I said there is a hotspot under the metal strip, where the plastic has been made very thin.

Tape might work, but it's the pressure hotspot that causes the problem in the first place and the presence of a tape layer may exacerbate the issue.

I have no intention of testing this premise. The Tunewear is a better solution for my needs, as I discovered that I dislike holding the device on the microfiber surface when the cover is deployed and locked back- I find it preferable to fold in half and touch the leather surface while holding the device.

YMMV, naturally.

I'm just having a hard time understanding how plastic--even plastic directly touching--could react with the aluminum to oxidize it.

At any rate, thanks for the heads up. I'll keep a lookout with mine.

Me too, but it was a black material that formed in the interface and that's the only explanation that I could come up with. The location of this black stain coincided precisely with the steel strip zone.

Would like to know that too, since I was I ready to order mine.

perhaps another reason they delayed it and this is corrected now? Archer got it (in Japan) few weeks ahead of their full shipping schedule it seems.

This is honestly the first time that I'm hearing about this. There's a review on youtube (for the ipad 3 version) that makes no mention of it. So maybe this is just a one off issue. I would think this would have occurred in last year's model as well. I'm wondering if the OP just got a flawed product.....or maybe like the previous poster said, this is the reason for the delay?

Email from Amazon

Amazon wrote to me saying I would have it by April 10th so I will take pics and write a mini review then.

I have the iPad 2 version on my new iPad right now... I have had it on since launch day .. Good news and bad news -- I took the case off for the first time since launch date because of the oxidation issues i read about on this site...

Good: The magnetic strip DID NOT produce any kind of oxidation/stains/scratches etc on my iPad, and its been exactly 3 weeks of usage.

Bad: One of the corners fits so tightly that it scratched on of the corners of my new iPad.. It is not too noticeable... and even thought I am OCD, it does not really bother me all that much... More than a scratch, it looks like the silver colored coating got rubbed off.. Either way, I slapped a piece of tape on that sucker to prevent further damage while I wait for my iPad 3 snap secure next week.

One wonders if the YouTube reviewer transported or used the iPad extensively after installation of the Belkin. I flew 12,000 miles+, took four bullet train trips, and spent 10 days in and out of busses, trains and cabs in Japan using the Belkin for 6 days after the first four with a Tunewear case (which just saved my iPad from a tumble off my nightstand, TYVM).

I am sure this was an early production item, unfortunately I can't seem to find the box I bought it in at the moment to look for a revision or lot number. There is a number somewhat crudely stamped into the case from the inside which I plan to forward to Belkin.

When I run my fingers along the inside of the case the discontinuity caused by the "well" for the steel strip is noticeable. This is what caused the pressure spot.

It's also important to note there was no apparent permanent damage to the iPad, but it did require some effort to clean off the contaminant- whatever it was.
