That store employee was full of it. Those circles do not mean NFC. He was lying.

On another note if you see a POS terminal with a color LCD there is a huge chance it supports NFC. Just a general observation.

How do you know he was lying? Lying requires deceit if he thought he was right but then he was not lying he was mistaken.

It's funny that now that Apple has their own NFC/Mobile Payments initiative with Apple Pay people are acting like they now have to use this as a form of payment "or else..." Is it really that big of a deal to pay with your phone vs. conventional methods? I've had Google Wallet for a few years now, but haven't cared to activate and use it yet.

For me? yes it is important.

3 debit card hacks in 3 years for a total of $4300 before noticing.

Yes. The banks reimburse you immediately. But your new cards come several days later and all related online transaction points need to be updated. Not to mention that BoA keeps my "conventional" use on a tight leash. I've been locked down about 3 times this year because of "suspicious activity" like when I use my card for cash or pricier purchases.

Remember. Apple Pay is also online usable helping prevent fraudulent transactions.
