I live in Germany, up until a year ago I would have laughed at the idea that taking out a laptop / tablet on the train might be somehow risky.

But even today, during the 9-5 commute times, it's extremely unlikely to be robbed.

I certainly see people do it. Sometimes even 13" laptops. I just wouldn't do it myself, even if I had the space.

When I was in Ireland last spring, I used an offline map app (Navigon). It worked well without using cellular data on my cellular iPad Pro.

Yeah, cellular support is pretty neat, I pay 10 € a month, no contract, for 15 GB, and ever since then I don't need a phone contract any more. My prepaid comes down to maybe 10 € a year.

Erm, with which provider? Cellular service is cheap in Germany, but to my knowledge there is no provider that offers 15gb for 10€/mo. no contract.

For instance, I once saw a really cool app called Duet Display, which lets you use the Ipad as a second monitor, which I thought was a productive use I wouldn't have thought of.

Rant: What's up with accessory prices for this? 50 Euro for a smart cover? Another 50 for a back cover? 100 for a pen? Are they having a laugh?

Duet is nice, but even better with a 12.9.
I'm with you on the case and cover, they are really expensive.
But the pencil is really a very nice piece of technology that is totally worth every penny I paid for them. Both of them. I use them until the battery is empty, every day, just like both my iPad Pro's (12.9 and 9.7).
I use one for doodling notes, the other one for reading text books. One for iCal the other for writing mails, one for looking up references while typing on the other. One to let a customer read his last project description and the other to write notes of his remarks, updates, changes etc. Etc.
Sorry, got carried away a bit, but the iPads are really nice, and the pencils are expensive, but totally worth it to me.

Agreed. I have an iPad Mini 2 and an iPad Pro both with cellular. I don't really take an iPad with me anymore these days with the bigger phones, but it's nice to know I can get service at home whenever they may be a power outage which happens a few times a year here.
u have three iOS devices with cellular in case of a power outage
Tripple down on security :)
