"SMC reset"? How do you do that? Or is it just what MikesGravity suggested? It does seem to make some sort of sense that SMC would be at the center of all this. (I'm already somewhat familiar with what SMC is/does, I just don't know everything it can and cannot do.)

EDIT:

^^^^^^THIS WORKED!!!!!!! Everything works as it should now! Thank you!

That's good! It seemed to work a little for me but not as good as leopard was. I still restored back to Leopard and everything is PERFECT. Going to wait for a more stable version of Snow Leopard (10.6.3,4,5 etc.).

how do you reset the smc on a unibody macbook pro???

From Apple:

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and later)

1. If the computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shutdown from the Apple () menu.
2. Connect the power adapter to a working power source.
3. On the built-in keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once.
4. Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to start the computer.

Trackpad - Pinch

Try this:

Turn off ALL trackpad options in system pref>trackpad. Reboot. Re-enable however you like it.

(KNOCK ON WOOD) it seems better to me. Might be a placebo but I'm not seeing the problems I did like tap to click and two finger scroll randomly stop working.

You nailed it. Deselect all, restart and reselect. Thanks for the help.

just a quick suggestion for anyone facing the same problems i had, which was an unresponsive tap to click after snow update.

Symptoms: when trying to select something, i would have to click down on the pad instead of one touch to select.

Possible Fix: raise double click speed to 100%

Worked for me.:)

Same problem here, it gets annoying when I have to push a bit hard on the trackpad or click more than 2 times after installing "SL". this was not a problem with 10.5.8, im just hoping is a software issue and not a hardware problem.

The new performance update 1.0 seems to have solved my tap to click problem.... Still testing it though...

MikesGravity fixed it for me

This seems to have fixed it for me. My problem was it wasn't recognising single tap to clicks - I often had to tap twice. I reckon it was losing 1 tap in 10 unless I tapped very carefully. After doing Mike's suggestion I have tried at least 100 taps and haven't lost any. Knock on wood indeed! Thanks Mike

Stock Macbook Pro (5,5), supplied with 10.6.0, now running 10.6.2, no hacks.

Same issue here!

Hi all,

I am having the same issue here. The weird thing is that after installing SL I didn't have a problem. Then my HD went caput, I reinstalled SL and it has been giving me the same problem as my man waffle!
I have to install the MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.2 which "fixes" the trackpad issues. However every so often it goes back to having problems and I have to reinstall the combo. I've noticed that after putting the MB 13.3 Alum to sleep by closing the lid it happens.
Any clues?!?!??

I'm having a bigger issue in the same vein as this.

None of the three- or four-finger gestures are working after updating to SL. Two-finger scrolling works fine. Two-finger pinch-to-zoom and twist-to-rotate do not work. Haven't tried re-installing SL, but I'm hesitant to go through that without knowing if it would actually fix the problem.

I never used tap-to-click (I always have it turned off), so I can't comment on those features. I always found that frustrating and I hate how you can't turn it off on Windows-based laptops. But I am not having the issue of increased resistance to pressing the trackpad-button. But then, I never spilled anything on it, so...

Clues? Yes, you are using SL.

I finally gave up on SL. I thought I was smart, and waited for 10.6.1 before "updgrading" to SL. Since, I have fought with my computer and have HATED it for all the bugs and unreliability -- iCal and the trackpad, mainly, but other annoyances as well. I got to the point in December where I dusted off the old HP to install Windows 7, and I thought "this is nuts" and instead spent the time DOWNGRADING to Leopard. My MacBook Pro (July 09) now works SO MUCH BETTER.

I hate Snow Leopard so much, that when my mom insisted on buying a MacBook to replace her dead PowerBook G4 (I begged her to switch back to Windows), we had it shipped to me, and I wiped the HD and installed Leopard. I don't have the patience do deal with a buggy computer directly; I can't possibly troubleshoot one over the phone!

My first Mac was a Mac Classic II in 1994, and I have bought 6 others since then, in additional to influencing countless other people's purchases. Not any more. SL is so terrible, and I don't like the physical hardware (sharp edges, hyper-glossy reflective screen, oversized trackpad that is hard to not accidentally contact), that I have sworn this will be my last one.

I just updated to SL and my trackpad is not working well (and also my keyboard) while in use, sometimes it just stops working, i can't move the cursos with the trackpad (the button seems to work), and sometimes along with the trackpad the keyboard goes with it.

I did a fresh install of SL and only because i need to have SL (new iPhone SDK) am still on it, Leopard worked good! Maybe the snow got any circuits?

Run all the updates?
