I'm about to start off a new business so I'm hoping to pull of a trifecta of Apple goodness with a Mac Pro, Macbook Air and iPhone 3GS :D If Adobe could pull their act together and bring out a Creative Suite that is fully multiprocessor and graphics card aware, that would be icing on the cake... then again we are talking about Adobe :(

The default has now changed from 1.8 to 2.2 "to better serve the color needs of digital content producers and consumers". Personally, I think that this is a good thing, but I'm sure it's going to cause some heartache for people wondering why things "look different" (as opposed to just 'think different'!)
Interesting... switching to the default gamma that Windows uses... certainly makes sense for content producers as they don't have to worry about stuff looking different on the two platforms.

So it looks like I am out of luck hoping for any graphics improvement on my SR Macbook (Nov 07). I would be nice to ave a Macbook that did not going into overdrive anytime a flash file was fed to it.
I do hope that they fix the problem with flash making my fans go crazy, my alum MB is only a few months old but sounds like a jet taking off when working with flash/youtube.

Flash is Adobe's problem. It's very bloated and a huge resource hog. Check activity monitor when watching llash videos. You'll see firefox/safari chewing up at least 100 out of 200% of the CPU. That's why your fans kick into high gear. Check out iStat Menus http://www.islayer.com/apps/ to monitor temperatures and CPU usage in the menu bar.
Apple is trying to abandon flash all-together for good reasons with HTML5+Quicktime. Flash is on it's death bed already.

But Apple could improve this by better load balancing of apps. Most apps cap out at 100% if they aren't programmed for multi-threading, leaving the other half only being used for other background processes. If Leopard load balanced apps that don't have multi-threading coded in better this wouldn't be as much of an issue on dual cores and above. Even Vistx64 can do this... But it's windows...

Edit: Snow Leopard and x64 Safari should fix this but firefox will still be x86...

InfoWorld just said this in a review of Snow Leopard:

I have a late-2006 model MacBook Pro at home, and it's frustrating that its gesture-capable trackpad supports only the first generation of touch gestures (one- and two-finger moves), not the second-generation three- and four-finger options. Snow Leopard fixes that, so gesture-capable trackpads now support all gestures, no matter what Mac model you have. (Of course, your Mac has to have a gesture-capable trackpad, so models before 2006 aren't helped out by this update.)

Given that a lot of content producers are on Windows, and may not know/care about Mac gamma differences, I think it's good news for Mac users across the board. Standards are usually to be applauded (even if they're driven by an inferior platform!). In this case, I think we all win.

The website says order by 11:59P PST Wednesday and get by Friday. I did and I'm supposed to get SL between Tuesday and Saturday next week...

I know I'm whining but... *pout*

If they are going to do you that way you might as well order from Amazon and save some money. I would be irritated, too!

I just chatted with Jason T. at Apple. No. The 'offer' was withdrawn yesterday at 2PM and I will not receive Snow Leopard Friday. Period. Quite a nice butt head attitude. Working on posting image of the 'offer' soon...

The offer... In by 11:59PM and here by Friday...

Ok, no more whining. Some of my 'must haves' are on the incompatibility list...

Waiting, again... All is good though. I probably would have upgraded a machine and regretted it by now.

Still, how many people here (if anyone is still watching this) pre-ordered the family pack and got it Friday? Just curious. It sounds like, in general, the 'offer' was taken up by far more people than Apple even in their wildest dreams envisioned.

Interesting that is...

Snow Leopard killed my slingbox

Hey do you guys know if Slingbox is compatible with Snow Leopard? And if it isn't, are they working on a version that will be compatible?
Thanks in advance!

I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I can't get slingbox to work . . it's not the cables, it's the software upgrade - slingbox not recognized - snow leopard install changed router settings or something and I have worked for hours and can't get it fixed H E L P
