Still no word?

Well I have been desperately trying to find a fix to this issue, so far, nothing yet :mad:

I did however find a work around that may work for some people. I found that if you activate internet sharing as you would in 10.5 then restart the computer and leave it at the login screen, internet sharing doesn't seem to cut out. It's once I log into an account that I notice the connection being dropped. For whatever reason, I believe that there is some process or setting that is activated upon login that deactivates the internet sharing's ability to broadcast an active IP address to connected computers.

I truly hope that Apple addresses this issue with a system update. Hearing that Apple is not "officially supporting" internet sharing, is rubbish. If their actually not supporting it, then why are they including it in their operating system. :confused: It's like buying a car, and realizing that the air conditioning isn't working quite right, only to have the car maker, say Dodge, tell you that they don't officially support "Air Conditioning" so "tuff-luck!" It just wouldn't happen! So there is no excuse for apple to pull this garbage!

Go to Macintosh HD, click Library, click Preferences, click System Configuration, delete "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist", "NetworkInterfaces.plist", "preferences.plist". Restart computer. Open VZAccess Manager, click options, click "Run Setup Assistant", follow the onscreen steps.

this is my note i left on my desktop and it worked for me. i left it there just incase it happens again. i use verizon internet cards so thats why the vzaccess manager thing is there. but if u use something similar to it just run the setup thing. good luck.

This worked for me!

I've had internet sharing problems ever since installing Snow Leopard on 8/30.

The airport card would just shutdown after a day or two for no apparent reason.

The Sharing settings didn't change, but you could not turn the Airport card back on without a restart.

I think I saw this fix on this forum or maybe a different one.

I turned the internet sharing off and trashed the Library/Preferences/System Configuration Folder and the Library/Caches Folder. Then shut down the computer (not restart).

I started up the iMac and went through the Sharing setup again. I named the Computer something besides Automatic and set the channel on 9. 1,6 and 11 were being used by my neighbors (do not leave on Automatic).

This worked for several days without any security settings so I added 128 bit WEP and it worked for several more days.

It only stopped working after I ran Cocktail 4.5.2 to repair permissions. I don't know if that was the problem because it should not be. Cocktail is just a user interface for Terminal functions, I think.

Anyway, I went through the same process and it's been working for a week. I'm sharing Time Warner Cable on ethernet through Airport to a Macbook and a Wii and using 128 Bit WEP. Everything works. Anybody want to try it and report back?

OK, I found a solution that's working for me on Apple support forums. Here it is:

System Preferences -> Network -> Airport -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> Configure IP v4 : using DHCP with manual Address + address = 10.0.2.1 (Configure IPv6 is off).

Go back to: System Preferences -> Network -> Airport -> click 'Turn Airport ON'
This now gives a Airport with a fixed IP and a dhcp deamon.

System Preferences -> Sharing -> Toggle ON 'Internet Sharing'

Peace,

I'm at a hotel right now and trying to share the internet computer for my laptop with my wife's MacBook Air. what's confusing me is that from the system preferences -> sharing->internet sharing, it says "share your connection from" and I have selected airport. "to computers using" and there is firewire, ethernet adaptor (en2), ethernet adaptor (en3), and ethernet. But no airport. I want to share my wireless internet with my wife's MBA wirelessly

^I thought I saw some ways to share a wireless signal via wireless too. But I could share over bluetooth, that would be fine.

But again, in the "internet sharing" tab, there is only "to computers using" and there is firewire, ethernet adaptor (en2), ethernet adaptor (en3), and ethernet. nothing else.

My wife's macbook air doesn't have a firewire port so I can't use that. It only has USB. And I do have an ethernet port on my MacBook Pro, but I'm connected over wireless

Update: I followed some of the instructions here (http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/how-to-share-an-internet-connection-in-os-x-658271) for the Bluetooth PAN and can now select Bluetooth PAN from the "to computers using" in the "internet sharing." I don't know what to do from the other computer though, (my wife's MacBook Air) that will be using this now shared Bluetooth PAN internet connection

Just wanted to share something that completely works for me. There is an alternative way to set up your adhoc now in the "internet sharing" window.

Before you enable the internet sharing by checking the box on the left, there is a button that says airport options at the bottom right of that window. You set up your adhoc network there first and then enable the internet sharing and then join the network that comes up from that window. It worked for me and I have no problems at all. Let me know if it works for you.

noticed something odd

I of course am having problems with my ICS as well, of course after installing Snow Leopard. Other computers can connect to mine but not actually get internet access. I have Little Snitch monitoring my internet traffic and which applications are sending and receiving on the network. I have noticed that when ICS is not working, the 'named' application is not running. I have figured out absolutely no way of getting this app to fire up manually because its in a hidden folder. When this app does decide to fire up on its own, suddenly everything works. According to my research 'named' is a program used in most unix based systems as a DNS server. It makes sense that if this particular component isn't running that other devices would not be able to connect to the internet through ICS.

If anyone knows anything about this hidden app and how to get it to work reliably, let me know.

Ok....why??!

mee too.
internet sharing issues on iMac 2.66 10.6.1, ethernet -> airport , drops out with no access, while iPhone, MacBook or Win7 netbook still report a wireless connection but no internet access.

Ethernet to Airport??! Buy a router for crying out loud! :O OK, that's harsh, but really, why would you even bother when a router is $30? Why waste the CPU cycles and force the computer to be on all the time?

As an aside: I know this is an old thread, but some things in it were helpful. It helped me understand the internet sharing better. Like Window$, some manual configuration seems to be necessary for it to work correctly. I HAVE to use sharing because I'm connecting with a Verizon cellular adapter. Even then, I'm not doing it ad-hoc; I'm feeding to a real router over ethernet. So far, so good!

I just want to add my name to this problem.

I got with Apple Care a couple of weeks ago, and of course no solution yet. I'm just hoping for a fix by the time 10.6.2 comes out.

Wishful thinking????

The only short term fix is to toggle the internet sharing check mark box off and on. Some times that doesn't work, so I'll have to restart the iMac.

I'm frustrated too, because this was working PERFECTLY with 10.5 and ALL the point updates.

Hi, this is the same issue that I am having with 10.6 on the newest model mac mini (summer 2010). Whenever I reboot or sleep/wake the mac, I have to 'toggle' the internet sharing checkbox. Not cool, since this always worked automatically on my 2009 mac mini!

Hi everyone... I have been in there for some weeeks and today I found something that really helped me make my ipod use my mac internet sharing via Airport.

When debugging the problem in console I detected lines with "DHCP DISCOVER [en1]..." (this was my ipod requesting DHCP) followed by a line with "OFFER sent Gladiator 10.0.2.2 ..." (Gladiator is my ipod name). But my ipod never received the IP.

Then I run an "ifconfig" in terminal and found that Airport was configured with ip 10.0.2.1. THat was ok, it meant that Internet Sharing was working... so what could be wrong? well... a deeper search in console and i found a few lines with:
natd[XXX]: failed to write packet back (No route to host)
natd[XXX]: failed to write packet back (Host is down)

hum... it seems that there is a problem with natd, what could it be? I then remembered that VMware Fusion also uses nat for virtual machines (you can check the virtual interfaces created by simple running ifconfig in terminal), so I took a shot and uninstall VMware Fusion. I also had a Check Point Secure Client installed which created an alias and I had this one uninstalled to. So now i run the ifconfig in terminal and have:
en0 - physical ethernet
fw0 - firewire
en1 - airport

I reboot the mac and configured internet sharing normally... and ... voila! It started working. :eek:

Check and see if you have any software that is creating additional virtual interfaces with ifconfig and try uninstall it, I believe that there is problems there, trust me, it was a tough fight!

Which all good luck!

the trick

I lost 3h looking for a solution and here it is:

The network that you create NEEDS to be THE SAME NAME as the name of your Mac.

Check: computer name in SHARING pane

So just follow the original procedure and it will work if you follow the above.

voila.

if you need help, message me at gc8 at mac.com

:)

Think I figured it out.

Turn off internet sharing.
Go into system preferences -network
Click on Airport in the left hand side, then click 'advanced' on the right hand side'
Click TCP/IP and turn 'Configure IPv4 to Off
Click OK, then click 'Apply' in the network window.
Turn internet sharing back on.
After that I am now back to normal and my network is up and running again without problems.

Thanks - this worked for me to (to get my mbp playing nicely with an android phone). :)

Given I don't want a WEP network running all the time, and would rather connect my mac to my network using airport, do I need to put IPv4 back on? Or does it not matter? (I guess I mean, what is it, and what does it normally do!?)

VMware Fusion also uses nat for virtual machines... if you have any software that is creating additional virtual interfaces with ifconfig and try uninstall it

I am running parallels, which I guess is the reason I have this issue then? But I don't want to uninstall it - is there a way to get parallels and sharing my connection with my phone playing nicely!?

[Solved] : Schedule wifi restart on snow Leopard

Hi,

I don't know if my problem is quite the same as yours, but my mac mini wifi sharing stops responding each morning.
The wifi sharing icon and the settings are still active, the network signal and name is available from the client devices but the password verification failed.

My only solution : I had to restart it manually (uncheck and check the wifi sharing setting).

I finally found an automatic solution :

1. Create a sh batch file (ex : /Users/my_username/scripts/wifisharingrestart.sh ) :
Code:
#!/bin/sh
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
networksetup -setairportpower off
networksetup -setairportpower on

2. Create a launchd file (either with lingon or by creating this file /Library/LaunchDaemons/<TLD.UNIQUE_NAME>.daily.wifisharingrestart.plist) :
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
	<key>Label</key>
	<string><TLD.UNIQUE_NAME>.daily.wifisharingrestart</string>
	<key>Nice</key>
	<integer>1</integer>
	<key>ProgramArguments</key>
	<array>
		<string>/Users/my_username/scripts/wifisharingrestart.sh</string>
	</array>
	<key>RunAtLoad</key>
	<false/>
	<key>StandardErrorPath</key>
	<string>/tmp/AlTest1.err</string>
	<key>StandardOutPath</key>
	<string>/tmp/AlTest1.out</string>
	<key>StartCalendarInterval</key>
	<dict>
		<key>Hour</key>
		<integer>8</integer>
		<key>Minute</key>
		<integer>30</integer>
	</dict>
</dict>
</plist>
